Dennis Bergkamp - Autobiography

For those of you that are not aware Dennis Bergkamp is releasing his autobiography - Stillness and Speed.

The Guardian are serialising some of it at the moment and it makes for some pretty interesting reading -

"if I tried to lob David Seaman … woaah! If it worked, it was a fantastic goal and he was like: "Great, well done." But if it didn't work out, he got hold of the ball and smashed it two hundred yards away! He'd just kick it away and say "Get that!" and I'd have to go and get it."

He never realised the magnitude of his move from Inter to Arsenal until he read about it on Ceefax.

It will certainly make for an interesting read, he even mentions the critical factor of why he chose Arsenal over Spurs!

I'll definitely get it. DB10 is a smart cookie, so I can imagine it'll be a bit more interesting read than 90% of these footballers autobiographies.

Has anyone read Vieira's book? Dabbled with getting it.

Perry Groves one is the only autobiography worth getting.

I don't think most of the kids here will know what Ceefax is.

I've read Perry Groves and Paul Merson' books respectively. Entertaining, but you do get the impression they were ghost-written by the editor of 'Nuts' magazine.

There are some great football books, but autobiographies tend to be a mixture of disingenious smatterings and self-serving lip service. There are though, some notable exceptions.

Like I say, Bergkamp is unusual in that he's a mixture of intelligence & modesty, so I've fairly high hopes for his book. Maybe something to fill my MOIST stocking this Christmas...

It's not that old, you'd have to be about 10 not to remember it!

So you're probably correct actually...........
