Our shirt sponsor is to be "The Prince's Trust" with any money involved going straight to charity. Great gesture i think and you never know we could end up playing like Barcelona do with the "Unicef" arrangement ha ha ha Come on you Blue Boys cant wait for Saturday

I love SKL too. Sexually. His anger excites me.

I've warmed to him over the recent weeks.

OOJW - is that during a recessionary period though? Should be a priority as biggest earner in sponsorship terms I would have thought.
I work for a company where we sponsor two football teams - one of the world's biggest and....eh...one of the world's not. I know that in these straitened times, my work called into question the value of those deals and I imagine other companies are doing similar - especially when you consider that there are many more ways of getting branding out to a mass-market via the internet than previously - as you can see from the make-up of sponsors changing.
Nice gesture but I am still worried that we have lost key starters for us last season (Jones, Jones, RSC - ok not key in terms of impact but certainly in terms of where we needed to target) and haven't fully replaced those. Even the replacements (count Formica into this, Goodwillie, Petrovic?) are not experienced Prem players (although good prospects) so can only hope they come good.

Hi RTHAFA....I have posted in the other shirt sponsor thread that the recession may well be a factor, or the price is deemed too high, or maybe even our commercial department is underperforming.
And yes, other than stadium sponsorship, the kit sponsership is the biggest sponsorship deal available to sell, far eclipsing ball sponsors, programme sponsors, perimiter boards, concourse sponsors, etc.
For next season it is in our best interests to locate a suitable long-term partner to sponsor the shirts. If we remain in the Premier League it should be relatively easy to locate a suitable sponsor for the shirts, recognising the high level of visibility affored by tv for anyone represented on the kit.

McTeeth, the fact you have warmed to me angers me greatly.
I am one step ahead of all of you eternal optimists, after a couple of months you will be feeling exactly the same, and you will all bow to my amazing foresight.
"How did you know Kean wasn't the new Mourinho" you will all ask in awe.
"How could you predict that Goodwillie wasn't the 15 goals a season man we need?"
"How could you foresee that a team that struggled to stay up and hasn't been improved in the transfer window could struggle again?"
And my answer will be simple.
Because I am not stupid.

You see those with VD (Venkys Delusion) can't actually apply logic to anything. SKL and myself haven't suggested it's not great for the charity, a nice gesture from the club etc. Merely that there would've been a commercial decision.
If someone offered £20m per year, their name would be on it! If the highest offer was 100k then sending Andrews out on loan for a month covers it. Now there's a suggestion that there's cheap marketing channels out there, true but most drive low engagement.
Venkys can spin this locally to fans, nationally as supporting uk youngsters and worldwide with their global brand. Every column inch written will feature a picture of the Rovers shirt and there's also opportunity to direct people to season tickers, merchandise, Venkys etc.
I haven't suggested it's a bad idea, for the money it could be a brilliant idea. I'm less sure it's confirmation of either their inherent kindness nor total wealth though...

I think the timing proves it was a last resort.

The timing doesn't prove anything. It merely fuels speculation. We're all so bored out of our minds without football we've resorted to discussing the damn sponsor.

I think we both know it proves it was a last resort. Unless we've been haggling with a charity for 3 months?

Perhaps the Venkys thought Prince was an 80's funk pop star...
