I read that Derby have made an official approach to QPR for the services of first-team coach Steve McLaren.
Apart from the fact he didn't cover himself in glory when last a manager in England, I have heard that his influence at QPR has been really positive and his departure will be seen as a blow.
By moving to Derby might it have the fortunate coincidence of simultaneously weakening QPR?
Derby board does us a favour?

This is Steve McLaren you're talking about.
He's always been a decent coach but a footballing mastermind he is not. I'm sure the nice man will be missed, but I have little faith it will weaken QPR.
Derby on the other hand, will be weakened by his departure if it means he's their manager!!!

If they'd taken Harry Redknapp, I'd have said the effect would be a lot more significant.

I guess a squad full of multi million £ prem players is having a positive effect on QPR's posistion too.
Only P2 is up for grabs this season it would seem

They may have done us a greater favour by taking Zak Whitbread on loan and off our wage bill.

He is reported to be stalling with the hope of a Sunderland job interview. So either will do.

And what now for Mr Clough junior? I doubt whether he would be thought capable of making the step up to the top flight, even to a struggling club like Sunderland or Palace, when Hollowwords is dispensed with, which will surely happen. I expect he will have to hang on for the next Championship vacancy. I don't think he would be too keen to leave the Midlands.
