No doubt we need to start playing a CB pair constantly to bring some stability to our defence, the question is which pairing do we go with.

For me there are only 3 choices

1- Vidic Smalling
2- Vidic Evans
3- Smalling Evans.

Rio-Vidic is no longer a viable option and we really need to give a new combination some game time to develop a relationship. Some may argue that Rio Vidic should still play the big games, but Rio is making a lot of mistakes and given consistent game time any of the three pairs above would be just as good in the big games.

Option 3 is a tricky one, Evans and Smalling are undoubtedly the future of our defence and it is a good time to bed them in. Vidic is now 31 and while experience does have value he is entering the twilight of his career.Should we really be dropping Vidic who has been the foundation of our defence not to mention Captain of the team to prepare for the future? I would think that this season is Vdic's last as a guaranteed starter when fit and from the start of the next it should be option 3.

So assuming you keep Vdic who do you put along side him in the majority of games? Both Evans and Smalling are great on the ball but it is too early to say one is on better form than the other, after all they have only played 1/2 games each at CB this season.
