There is no doubt the pressure was on, yesterday... 3 losses in a row would have been hard to swallow... But Moyes showed alot of bottle, it would have been so easy to play it safe and bring on the old guard and/or safe options.
yet:
1) He gave a debut start to 18 year old Januzaj. He could easily have played Nani or young there.
2) He played Jones in his preferred CB role in an attempt to find a pairing that is more reliable than the tried and tested Rio/Vidic pairing.
3) He chose Nani over the more defence minded Valencia... It would have been easy for him to justify having a safe bet on the right wing, with Januzaj starting on the left.
I'm sure some plums will say "it was only sunderland" but anyone who watched them against Liverpool knew they were reinvigorated since Di Canio left.
Hats off to Moyes, brave moves in a must win game
Props to Moyes

Yes, I'd only play Welbeck wide - I don't
want to call it the wing - against sides
whom we expect to have an awful lot of the
ball. He started there in both games against
Real and was excellent.

Now thats an excellent WUM

did no one see Valencia's pass to RVP? He is cutting into more central positions under Moyes and it is starting to pay off.

Please stop using Robbs form of argument by using one example as a trend when it is actually the exception.
Valencia can cut in but that is not the worry. To cut in regularly requires you to be 2 legged which he is not.

Welbeck was 'player of the 2 legs' v Real for me
But because of the defending from the front and tireless running rather than as being a class attacking player.

I wish Giggs couldve used his right foot in his youth. Would have been some player then.

Agree Greg. Welbeck on the wing is a
disaster.

Welbeck is a disaster everywhere except the bench

yeah, welbeck should either be sold or go out on loan. he wouldnt of lasted here if he wasnt english and came out of our youth system

Disagree on Welbs. As a footballer he is far more talented than Young and Valencia. He did well as a striker in the season before we bought RvP. Welbeck isprobably not going to be one of our top players, but players like Welbeck have contributed hugely to our success. He's good on the ball and works tirelessly for the shirt, which is more than can be said for a lot of top footballers.

I can't see how any United fan could have a problem with Welbeck. He rarely has a bad game and isn't even first choice. OK, he didn't score enough last season but he's got three already this time from limited opportunities. Great player to have at the club.

He's a good outlet to relieve pressure also as he can hold the ball up unlike say kagawa who simply gets brushed off the ball putting us on the back foot again.

I think the likes of Wellbeck and Hernandez will need to accept that it is unlikely that they will be first-choice at Utd, but they are important squad players - the question is will that be enough for them. Of course RVP and Rooney are first choice at the moment, and in a few years time some other big signings will be first choice - I don't believe there is enough belief in Hernandez and Wellbeck's ability for them to be outright first choice. Similar to when Ole was rarely first-choice. If the rest of the squad is sorted and remains successful, then this may satisfy their needs, but there may come a time when they will want regular football.

Sorry we can only blame the manager when we lose. When we win it's obviously the players.
