Seems there was a bit of PR by our Board telling him to make a statement that he asked for loan. It was fishy to me at the time because I've felt Lukaku has the type of mentality which will make him remain here and prove himself.
In either case if we end up signing a big name striker in the next 12 months I don't expect him to stick around another season proving himself.

Lukaku didn't ask for Loan

Someone's tired ^
I'm glad you refered to Zaha bud, another waste of a promising talent. Feel free to embelish my argument further

Read the whole interview:
Asked about the widespread surprise over his latest loan move, he told Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad: 'I couldn't do much about it. The coach made his choice, and, as a player, you have to respect it. I went along with it, and it is now up to me to prove he was wrong.
'It has been two years in a row now, and it does make you question things and wonder why. But that's life. You just have to get on with it. The only thing I can do is play well and score as many goals as I can, and then maybe people will notice what I am about.'
Told that Mourinho had no regrets about letting him go and felt playing for Everton was different from Chelsea, Lukaku replied: 'What can I say? Everyone has their own opinion on things. I can only underline my case by scoring more goals than all the strikers currently at Chelsea, and that is what I will be striving to do this season.
'I hope my goals will help Everton finish higher than Chelsea. I am at Everton for the season, and I want to do as well as I possibly can for them. I also hope Jose Mourinho and I are both at Chelsea for a long time, because I want the best for Chelsea and I know he is a good coach.
'I think he makes his decisions in good conscience and with the intention of doing the best he can for the club. That's done now, and I can only concentrate on doing well at Everton.
'I have a drive and ambition to be the best I can, but it's not just personal. I am always aware of responsibilities to the team, and I want to contribute to Everton having the best possible season while I'm here.'
Juventus and Borussia Dortmund both expressed an interest in Lukaku, prior to the transfer window shutting, but he made it clear he still sees his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
'They are not exactly small clubs, and it is flattering to be linked with them,' he said 'I appreciate they feel I could handle playing at that level, but my goal has not changed. I want to succeed at Chelsea.'

If you think that a player can't make it at a top club and is becoming a wasted talent because he's not getting 50 games a season for them in his teens then you're deluded

Not at all MvG.
You're veering from the point bud as you're latest post shows. Try counting sheep.
I agree with the OP.....................if that's ok with you.

Lukaku clearly doesn't have the mentality to stay at the club and prove himself if he deliberately asks to go on loan...

MvG...................The kid just wants to play football, but ideally for the club that signed him. It's as simple as that bud.

That's not how it works most top clubs employ the loan system to get their youth players ready to play at the highest level and not your warped perception of throwing them in the deep end at 18

He needs experience and he can play without any pressure at Everton, i really dont see the problem. The short term views of football fans are often pointless, no one will mention or even remember this loan spell when he is banging in goals for us in the next three seasons

I would have pis--- off too, he was on the bench watching Torres; Ba and now semi retired Eto'o start matches for us - while a few months ago he was scoring hat tricks against United. Being told that you are behind the pecking order behind the biggest flop in English football is enough to pis- off even the most professional strikers in the business. I know Lukaku is a Chelsea fan, so possibly he knows how sh-te Torres has been specially being a striker himself - he is not some casual guy who still thinks Torres is good enough for a club of a caliber.
I do worry he has low goals, outscoring our strikers is going to be a breeze, he should want to finish top scorer in the League this season. He has the needed attributes to do it.

he is only 20 to be fair, and his loan spell at West Brom was not a full season of leading the line, as he was brought off the subs bench for many of his most eye catching performances
