I never found it that funny, mainly because I can't really hear this supposed thick dutch accent he is supposed to have. Stands to reason though that you spend time in a foreign country you'll start picking up some of the accent, no doubt I'll sound like an honorary kiwi within a year of being there.

my mate worked in america for a year. When he came back I didn't notice he had an american accent, although his little girl did. However about 3 months from him coming back we where working out in Munich and we were in the hotel bar and my mate started talking to a yank. I noticed as he spoke to this bloke he was talking in with an american accent and it was getting stronger as he was talking and he didn't even notice.

We all do it. Steve's only mistake was to do it in front of a camera in the YouTube age.

It's all about phonetic convergence during conversational interaction, with a bit of mutual interpersonal postural constraints thrown in. Apparently.

Although my family are from Derby, I've never lived there and am a proper West Country boy but if I spend more than 3 hours in the birth place of football, I can "ey up Duck" with the best of you.
I work with lots of Swedes and often have to remind myself that I can't do the Swedish chef impression in their presence.
McClaren just got caught on camera,
