African qualifiers

We have entered the final stage of qualifications in Africa. This week sees the first leg of the play offs, with the second leg in November.

Results

Côte d'Ivoire 3 v 1 Senegal
Burkina Faso 3 v 2 Algeria
Ethiopia 1 v 2 Nigeria
Tunisia 0 v 0 Cameroon
Ghana 6 v 1 Egypt

The big stories could be a first World Cup for Ethiopia and/or Burkina Faso, Ghana v Egypt looks a tasty tie for Tuesday.

CONCACAF

Costa Rica and USA have secured their place. Honduras just need a point, while Mexico should secure the play-off place.

15th October

Jamaica v Honduras
Costa Rica v Mexico
Panama v USA

CONMEBOL

Columbia join hosts Brazil and already qualified Argentina in the finals after coming back from 3-0 down to grab a 3-3 draw with Chile.
Ecuador beat Uruguay, putting both them and Chile in a strong position to qualify, both needing a draw from their meeting on Tuesday night.
Uruguay look set to go into the inter-continental play off v Jordan, needing a big goal difference swing to overtake the loser (if there is one) from the Ecuador v Chile game.

15th October - notable ties

Chile v Ecuador
Uruguay v Argentina

UEFA

Belgium, Germany and Switzerland joined Italy and the Netherlands in qualifying on Friday.
Sweden and Croatia have sealed a play off place.

Russia and Bosnia-Herzegovina qualify tonight.
Iceland and Romania will be pleased to have secured a play-off place, Portugal and Greece have to make do with them.

England and Spain look good to win their groups, while Ukraine and France will have to face a two legged pay off.

International football, not everyone's cup of tea, but this week should have an added bit of excitement to it.

No, I mean Jordan. Uruguay will play them in November.

Chile vs Ecuador probably will be a draw.

I can't remember the last time I saw the bookies give these odds for a draw..

Wow, Panama 2-1 with 5 mins left could have knocked out Mexico. Bottled it and lost 3-2

Honduras through.
Mexico in play off v New Zealand.

Chile and Ecuador through.
Uruguay into play off v Jordan.

This may sound like crazy talk, but England will have a much better chance of doing well in Brazil if they sack Roy Hodgson and replace him with Harry Redknapp.

It all depends on whether the FA are just content with qualifying for the World Cup, or whether they actually want England to do well.

On what basis?

Harry Redknapp is the most over rated manager in the history of football.

myhammers - you're right chap, does sound like crazy talk, can you imagine the tribunal when Roy sues for unfair dismissal?

So Chile won, Scotland cost me a big pay day.

Apparently Uruguay argies was an incredible game, Uruguay were sensational according to some reports.

Mexico have exceeded nine lives in this campaign that's for sure.
Heartbreak for panama, USA figured that as a nation they would make more money with mexico in the world cup

Check out the above link for an amazing football manager experience on this website, right here. it's not just that, it comes with banter and excellent friendly members. It has been running for 4 years since the old BBC 606 days, in total 6 seasons, so it must be good eh? All you have to do is manage your team, everything else is done for you. No need to waste time on doing predicitions, or taking up any responsibilities. Just try out, you could always leave after a couple of days. I myself have been part of this for 3 years now. We have a couple of vacancies waiting for you.
