What is the difference

between.........

Manager, Head Coach and Coach???

Watching MOTD last week it had.. AVB as Manager, Jose Mourinho as Coach and either Hughton or Allardyce as Head Coach.

I was thinking wtf is the difference between these three titles?

Anyone know?

isn't AVB head coach

i had an idea it was something to do with control over transfers, managers have control whereas coaches don't?

well i wlda said if your title is manager...your not only involved on the training pitch/game day but also in the running of the whole club...

coach...your role is purely on the field matters....!?

I'm pretty sure it had AVB as Manager and Hughton as Head Coach..... or vice versca.

I 100% remember seeing Jose with just the title as coach though.

It really depends on the extent of their responsibilities and other personnel in the club. A manger will usually have more overall control of club footballing policy which would normally included transfer dealings, they will also likely have more say on the footballing philosophy throughout the club and even appoint reserve and youth team coaches. A Head coach will more likely have to consult with the board and director of football in recruitment, how much say they have will vary but they may work more closely with the reserve team. A first team coach I’d say is the weakest of the lot, they work with what they are given and essentially just coach the players and try and mould them in to a team.

Of course all these terms can vary in their interpretation but this is how I see it. Id say a head coach is more in line with the European model where they work alongside a director of football, a manger will have greater control in the board room. Some lesser first team coaches will have very little contact with the board room at all and the director of football will be the go between.
