Overall, good game. A few holes as usual but the determination was there. We were the better side, especially the 2nd half of the 1st and 1st half of the second.
Don't know why Andy Townsend gave Rooney the MOM, kept giving it away from his 'slick' passes, especially in the first half.
For me it was Townsend who should have got it. Kept going forward with good skill. Although, Bains dropped off a little in the second, he was top notch too.
I suppose, Andy likes the props to go to a striker.
Anyway, all good in the end.
Looking forward to the fine Brazilian ladies.
Now, back to the real competition...

England match - MOM

No of course we won't win it but it's nice to be there
We may not get out the groups considering our seeding and the heat in Brazil. If we get to the second round or QF then that is probably quite good.

we won't be coming in with nearly so much expectation as there ws in South Africa. in fact as far as expectations go it'll be about as low as i can remember

Seeding and heat will have an impact though Rev, even if we aren't good enough. If the WC was in England we woukd definitely have a chance of winning it because of the conditions. The best we've played in international football in recent years was Euro 96 and I think being at home made a huge difference.

I don't think anyone is expecting England to win the world cup and we all know there are quite a few countries that have better teams than ours, but who cares,31 teams are going to find themselves in the same boat.
We qualified top of our group,so we deserve our spot,so all we can do is get behind the lads, enjoy the occasion and the 3 guaranteed games we have, anymore games we get will be a welcome bonus and another excuse for everyone to get together and continue the ride.

Don't you? I do. Playing on home soil, where our players are completely used to playing must have had an impact. It also helped that there weren't any really quality teams in Europe then. Germany were at the beginning of their decline. France and Spain were average. Holland were poor. We had a great balance and quality strikers, plus in Gascoigne one of the best midfielders in Europe. But had that tournament been in Poland I'm sure we wouldn't have played so well.

I completely agree that we have zero chance of winning the world cup mate! I just think it will be made harder by the heat in Brazil and other teams will be better suited to that climate. If we had the next world cup in England, we still wouldn't win and would get taken apart again by Germany but I think it could be even worse in Brazil
