Welbeck

Please Roy, for the love of God don't take the donkey to Brazil next year.

I've seen comments saying he offers more to the team than Walcott does . I'll admit neither are the greatest technically but I can guarantee you having Walcott out there will put fear into defenders whilst with Welbeck they'll be happy they're facing him.

The guy is a headless chicken. He's even worse than Gervinho was at his time at The Emirates.

Some back him by saying he offers more due to his defensive skills. If you want defensive skills, play a defender there as he's actually more likely to offer attack threat as well.

Agree?

People always say Walcott has been poor since the hat trick, no footballing brain etc., but I thought he did well at the Euros, turned the game around against Sweden when he came on.

Perhaps he will turn out to be most effective as a substitute, to stretch games for the last 30 mins with pace to burn vs tired defenders. The fact is England don't tend to use Walcott well, and if there is not intention to use a playing style which suits him the other players may be more suitable.

Is Welbeck the new Arsenal fans Hernandez?

This.
I believe Theo is England's best wide player with his Arsenal performances but England simply don't come close to utilizing him as well as Arsenal does. It's up to the manager to find a solution to that but Walcott simply doesn't do it for England.

Walcott has never seen a goalward through ball in his International career. To play a successful through ball the defenders/ midfielders need to have the presence of mind to play short passes out for a counterattack. This congests the play centrally and if done quickly enough opening up space on the wings for Walcott to run in on goal to.

Our defenders/ midfielders simply do not have the composure for fast paced and high pressured build up play.

Whereas the England players idea of a counterattack is hoof it up, knock it down, play it wide and then cross it in. He hardly has much use for his pace with this type of play.

Walcott will be a highly effective player for any technical team out there, he sadly just does not suit England's style.

Imagine Walcott playing for Netherlands or even Spain. He would get bucket loads of goals.

He isn't a "versatile" or even "complete" football player so he only works in specific systems none of which are employed by England. Therefore, he should be satisfied with appearances from the bench late in games in order to stretch the opposition.

Ox has much more of a chance of succeeding for England because he can adapt his game and play in different positions. He is also a lot better on the ball and has a fantastic shot on him (like Townsend). Those two should be enough competition to drive the performance levels up and maybe, just maybe, England might do something next year... no not win it but get to the semis possibly.

Let's face it if wellbeck wasn't playing for united, he wouldn't be anywhere near the squad let alone the team. I rate agbonlahor (who plays in the same posistion) more highly then him.

"that Man United team have been well out of our league for close to a decade now. Let's just keep attacking their youngsters like Welbeck, Cleverly, Zaha etc to make ourselves feel better".

Holte-I agree. Gabby is a much better player athletically and technically (just about).
