SpursBoy offered an okay defence of his title last tournament, but okay is not enough when defending a title in these tournaments and the ferocity of Ludy knocked him out in the semi-finals. However he did extend his reign at top of the rankings and with Kent and Voom absent he looks set to do it again this tournament. He has a tough group this tournament with familiar foes in Sideshow, May and Oscar, but I expect him to get through and be trouble in the knock-outs, but I don’t anticipate a fifth title.

Sideshow

Team: Lyon

Ranked: 16th

Sideshow negotiated a tricky group with a poor team last tournament and managed to go all the way to the semi-finals in what was an excellent tournament performance. This time around he has the strongest team in the tournament, a strong team with a strong player is always a good combination is it not? Well last time it happened in Serie A tournament he cracked in the quarters, but I think he will have learned from that. He will top this group and I think go all the way to the final, but I reckon Junior will edge him out.

May

Team: AS Nancy

Odds: 6 – 1

Ranked: 9th

May has gone rather shall we say quite, since he burst on to the scene with those two final appearances in what now seems long ago. His last tournament typified this with a quarter-final finish after a close game against Ludy. I think more of the same is order this tournament, I don’t think he will finish top two, but has the safety net of a play-off against likely to be Choice who he will beat. Anything else apart from quarters I will be surprised.

Oscar

Team: Stade Rennais

Odds: 8 – 1

Ranked: 20th

Oscar might be ranked 20th but on his day he could be top 5. Last tournament kinda summed him up, lost too Tyke and Tu Meke, but beat SpursBoy. Yet again he has a hard group and his best hope is that play-off spot, so three points off May is a must. Personally I think May will get it, but it isn’t forgone conclusion, wouldn’t surprise me if Oscar did get the spot.
