We've filled the gaps and bought for the future. A step in the right direction and precisely the correct way to build a football club. We've improved the squad and the first XI. We've bought young, we've provided cover. The owners and executive types have all said and done the right things and we simply couldn't have hoped for more. From top to bottom everyone at LFC is doing their bit.
Success is always dependant on that little piece of magic and we've certainly never lacked that in all the years I've watched, even with 'relatively' poor teams. With a well crafted team and that little piece of magic, anything is possible.
We're not going to win the Prem this season but we'll be capable of beating anyone and I have no doubt we'll finish in a Champions League place. After that, well let's wait and see. I think most of us hope for a Wembley trophy in 2012.
I'm not that bothered by criticisms from other fans but even if I was, I only ever read the usual opinion (that's all it is, opinion). You can talk all you like about this player is better than that player but even if that were true, when was the last time you remember any player having 2 identical seasons? Anyway, it's not about individuals, we all know a good team usually beats a good set of individuals. This is football and anything can happen...that's why we watch...that's why we love it.
The correct way to build a football club.

All I will say is after the terrible season we had we were not that far away from the top four. We are stronger now with the new signings and the addition of Aquilani back from loan, so I can't really see how were not going to improve.

We were never going to go bust but I admit there was a brief period under the previous Yanks I wondered if they were content to manage us into Premier League mediocrity.
Buying success does work unfortunately. That is unfortunately for us because nobody can compete with City and Chelsea in the money game except United who make up the difference with their manager. That's the route we're plying and it the only option we have.
You could say we're buying success but that's just ridiculous. We're not spending the most and since when did it guarantee success, you still need to run things properly on and off the pitch. How you spend is crucial and our owners and manager agree that young talent is the way to go. Yes, I'm sorry but a young talented unproven player IS sometimes worth more than an established aging superstar.
I don't rule out top spot or fifth place but I expect 2nd, 3rd or 4th. 5th place and no trophy would be disappointing but no more than that. We'll still be heading in the right direction and league position isn't the only measure of this.
We are very much at the start of a new period with new owners and a rejuvenated Dalglish. Two steps forward, one step back is fine by me, I am a patient man, god knows I've had to be.

Yep. Good, sensible, articulated and thought out article.
Hicks and Gillet stopped us from progressing at the rate we wanted but FSG have shown real intent by backing KK in the transfer market (contrary to all of the WUMs and sceptics back in January). The criteria for young, resellable talent is spot on and in-line with their other sports success in the Red Sox where they have rejuvinated a once declining dynasty.
The future looks bright but one step at a time.

Buying success will not work these days a la Blackburn 94
--------
londontopboy, a Chelsea fan saying that buying success wil not work these days... what is it now, £600m and counting since 2004. Chelsea are proof that success can be bought just like in 94.

Chelsea are proof that you can buy success with a good manager but both Chelsea and City are proof that it guarantees nothing.
It's an unfortunate truth of football today that you cannot achieve success without money but luckily for all fans there are still other crucial elements.
