Match Preview
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent record in Europa League Group K when they travel to FC Sheriff.Victories over Tromso and Anzhi Makhachkala have Spurs in complete control of their continental fate, with a four-point lead already opened up.Another success on Thursday could see them secure qualification for the knockout stage with plenty in hand - providing Anzhi are held at home by Tromso - allowing Andre Villas-Boas to rotate his squad and keep key men fresh. He is likely to shuffle his pack regardless, with Spurs looking to remain competitive on multiple fronts this term.A trip to the home of the Moldovan champions is something of a journey into the unknown, with Sheriff having never previously faced English opposition.Tottenham will be looking to maintain momentum, though, and preserve their perfect defensive record - with two clean sheets collected so far.Sheriff have found the target just once in their two fixtures to date, but manager Veaceslav Rusnac claims his side head into a midweek showdown with nothing to fear and everything to gain.He said: "We are looking forward towards this match. Everyone is looking forward to the game, including our players, coaching staff and management."We understand that they are a team of a high European level and we understand that they are favourites not only in our group but in the whole tournament."Nevertheless, we are going to fight tomorrow. We prepared very seriously for this game." On his side's preparations, Villas-Boas said: "They are influenced by the Brazilians they have: Six Brazilians, very creative players and particularly in midfield."They are a counter attacking team which break quickly so we have to be aware. But we also must keep to our own principles and stay solid in defence."
TOTTENHAM Team News
Emmanuel Adebayor is in line for his first Tottenham appearance of the season on Thursday.Having attempted to sell the striker in the summer, Villas-Boas ordered him to train with the club's reserves and gave him time off following the death of his brother in Togo. Adebayor has, however, travelled to Tiraspol, where Aaron Lennon could make his first start after recovering from a foot injury.Kyle Walker, Andros Townsend and Paulinho have been rested, while Etienne Capoue (ankle), Danny Rose (toe) and Younes Kaboul (adductor) remain out.
Second half much better than the first. Gutted for Lamela hopefully he'll get some confidence soon. Carrying that big transfer fee on his young shoulders seems to have gotten to him.
