Liverpool comfortably saw off the threat of West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon in the Barclays Premier League.
After four defeats to West Brom in their last five league meetings, the Baggies were becoming something of a bogey team for Liverpool, but a Luis Suarez-inspired hammering ended that run today.
It took the Uruguayan just 12 minutes to open the scoring, as he received the ball from Kolo Toure, turned and beat a defender before nutmegging Jonas Olsson and slotting it into the bottom left corner.
Five minutes later, he doubled Liverpool's lead with arguably one of the best headed goals of all time. Aly Cissokho crossed it in from the left and Suarez, standing on the edge of the 18 yard box, amazingly bulleted a header into the top left corner giving Boaz Myhill no chance.
10 minutes into the second half, Suarez completed his hat-trick as Steven Gerrard delivered the ball into the box from a free kick and Suarez again headed it into the net.
10 minutes later, West Brom were handed a lifeline in bizarre fashion. Billy Jones made a run with the ball into the box and ran into Lucas, and the assistant referee flagged for a penalty kick despite no appeals from players or even any indication that referee Jon Moss was going to award it. But James Morrison stepped up and drilled it low into the bottom left corner.
From here, West Brom started to look a little more dangerous, but with 13 minutes remaining Daniel Sturridge ended any hopes of a comeback as he took the ball past a defender before expertly chipping the ball over Boaz Myhill into the top right corner.
The result means Liverpool remain two points behind leaders Arsenal in second place, with the two sides meeting at the Emirates Stadium next weekend.
