Nicolas Anelka

This is what I said back in July.....

Anelka is old, most of the time carp and past it. On top of that he's a miserable little sulky piece of excrament in the same way as Odememwhingie is if he doesn't get his way"

Well, after Anelka's performance today was The Baggie Man wrong back in July?

He is old, past it, lacks enthusiasm and drawing no doubt, a very high salary. I just cannot see for the life of me what he brings to the team or is The Baggie Man missing something? We now have plenty of better options up front.

Great pity he didn't decide on retirement when his agent retired permanently!

And don't get too confident about the Palace game - we always under perform against 5hité teams.

Glad you guys put in your place today, too many times in our recent fixtures you have lucked out but not today, the better team wins.

I have to admit to a sigh of resignation every time I see Anelkas name on the team sheet...

All I can do is to wait patiently unil his 'form' dips and SC notices...

Quite agree, when we signed him, I think most fans thouht wtf? Supprised JP even sanctioned it.

I'm not convinced he's 'past it'. It's more likely that he can't be bothered.

He still looks pretty rapid to me so the age thing doesn't hold much water.

For me, I think the problem is that he keeps dropping short into an already crowded midfield.

With the system we're currently playing we need our centre forward to stay 'up top' to occupy the centre halves.

If Anelka had converted the 3 (ish) good chances he's had in front of goal I doubt we'd be having this conversation.

If he's getting in those good positions, he's not past it. If he's missing those chances, he's either low on confidence or simply not bothered.

Either way, isn't he on a performance related deal?

Baggie Man, I used to read your comments on 606v1 and enjoy them immensely - imagine my shock when your first post I read on ja606 says

"Great pity he didn't decide on retirement when his agent retired permanently!"

For shame man, for shame.

The rest I agree with, Anelka needs jettisoning in favour of younger, hungrier, worthier forwards.

Do you even have any other strikers??? you cant complain when you have a proven goalscorer for free.

Haha how droll, coming from a team that has Torres (worthless), Eto'o (dreadful) and Ba (awful)

Shane Long - perennial 8 goal scorer in the PL
Victor Anichebe - big target man, eager to play
Saido Berahino - England U21, scored some big goals this season despite playing LW
Matej Vydra - scored tons in the Champ last season, hd an injury recently
Markus Rosenberg - pedigree there but never really shone

Those are our other options, we'll be fine. Two of those would be upgrades on your shabby lot (hence you being linked to Berahino already).
