Last season after 9 games Everton sat 1 place higher but had 2 points less.
The next six league games we suffered only 1 defeat but we picked up only 7 points in the process as we gained only 1 victory but we had 4 draws.
It is vital the we continue to play to win rather than play not to get beat in games. Our run of games coming up include those against teams around us and a positive approach will hopefully reap a good haul of points.
After 15 games last season we won 5 drew 8 and lost 2,those draws proved costly towards the end of the season.Lets hope Martinez continues his glass half full approach to setting us up for games and have the players and the fans thinking only a win will do.

The importance of turning draws into wins

I get the idea phil, just saying there is another side to the argument is all. If it was as simple as being more adventurous managers would have a pretty easy job.

I understand this thinking but you can point to sides like Blackpool (relegated) and the Spurs of old who'd invariably end up bottom half by trying to lose 4-3 in hindsight.

Oh I agree, a Newcastle or Blackpool style will not get the team moving in the right direction. I think martinez knows this more than the rest of us as he moved quickly for Barry and kept the same defensive setup(back four) together. Two solid CB's and two good FB's and Barry in front give us a strong platform to go looking for goals but be sensible at the back. it is early days and if we finish around the same position as last season.....maybe a little higher I will be more than happy.

It's not about playing more forwards or attacking midfielders etc. It's more about the manager placing more faith in the attacking capabilities of his squad.
Martinez seems to be a manager who sets his team up to win a game rather than not lose a game,no matter who the opposition is.No doubt we will come unstuck in some games due to this, but last season drawing at home to the likes of Norwich,Newcastle,Swansea etc(disrespect btw)cost us dear as we often set the team out as if we were at home to Manchester United.
Martinez is making to opposition managers think 'what are we going to do to to combat eVERTON'

Missed the second half but read that Osman played very well when he came on. Do you think that he will start against Spurs or will Roberto stick with Ross

I think Ross has been showing his lack of experience recently which is totally understandable.
Last couple of games he's put his head down and not played the simple ball out to the wing that's been on.He seems an intelligent footballer and I'm sure with the more games under his belt the more he'll see the right pass to play.
Ossie showed that a simple run into space and a nicely weighted pass is all you need sometimes to unlock a defence.Nice weighted pass to Lukaku followed by a nicely guided pass into the net for the second goal.
When Ross gets more game time he will become some player

I like that Martinez sticks with Barkley and trusts him. I have also been impressed with McCarthy since he started this run of games. But Barry has shown his worth to the side. Keeps us compact and provides a defensive shield better than Gibson did.

Having a choice of five players for RM, LM and AM from Pienaar, Barkley, Ossie, Kev and the spanish kid who's name I cant spell is only good for us. I can see those foir rotating later in the season and I hope the spanosh kid gets more time.

Even Naismith has upped his game when he's been asked to play.I think Oviedo needs to fight for a place, when he's come on he hasn't shown enough

Sorry I missed out Naismith. A player who looks full of confidence and is a player martinez has got the mostbout of him so far
