After going from being a shoe in to land the job to reportedly not being interested, the bookmakers have now stopped taking bets and it now looks like O’Neill will be named the new Ireland manager next week.

I’m happy with his appointment but I do have some concerns. Apparently the reason he never got the England job was that he didn’t want anything to do with youth development or under age teams. He wanted to manage and take responsibility of the senior side only. He wasn’t interested in bringing young players through, giving young coaches an opportunity to learn, etc. Also, O’Neill is a manager, a man-manager and a great motivator. One thing he definitely is not is a coach. We need a coach. We need someone who gets the best out of the players we have and has them organised and hard to beat.
I wonder who his backroom team would be? Will John Robertson come back? Is he able to healthwise?
I'd love to see Chris Hughton brought in with him part-time

It looks like the O'Neill-Keane managerial ticket.
Who would have thought Keane would one day be working for Delaney and the FAI
Wonder why O'Neill wants him. Was O'Neill still at Forest when Keane went there?

This will not work- Keane's ego won't handle being second in command. MON has always been a hands-off type of manager in that he left a lot of his work to the assistants on the training pitch, but I'm not convinced with Keano- why would any of our players want to work with him when he was asking them for fights last summer? I hope I'm wrong.

Not that explicitly, but he was absolutely slaughtering them.
"They love having a dig back when I say something but I tell you now, I'll be ready if they do".
A couple of years ago Kevin Doyle was linked with Arsenal. Now he's heading back to the Championship. Stephen Hunt has been relegated three times in five years.
'Their club form is poor and no player has come out of the two games with any credit. Not one. That's why Giovanni Trapattoni should make 11 changes against Italy.'

Despite playing for NI, he would of had more affinity and affection for the Republic.

I'm not sure that's the case, I'd say he has equal affinity and affection for both parts of Ireland. If anything, he probably sees more potential in the Republic as he has access to a greater number of players and resources and can maybe qualify for a major tournament, like Trappatoni did for Euro 2012, Northern Ireland haven't qualified for a major tourament unfortunately since Mexico 86 - 27 years ago - and to be honest haven't really got close (like a play-off or something).
