Match Preview |
Everton and Tottenham will both be looking to further boost their top-four credentials when they meet at Goodison on Sunday (kick-off 1.30pm).Since suffering their first Premier League defeat of the season at Manchester City early last month, Roberto Martinez's Toffees have seen off Hull and won at Aston Villa. They sit two places and one point below Spurs, who also beat Hull and Villa after kicking off October with a loss. In last season's equivalent fixture, Clint Dempsey put Tottenham ahead on 76 minutes but late goals from Nikica Jelavic and Steven Pienaar produced a triumphant conclusion for the hosts. Spurs have lost on their last three trips to the blue half of Merseyside, and their last victory there came in February 2007 when Jermaine Jenas hit a late winner.Villas-Boas' side will have to stop striker Romelu Lukaku if they are to come away with something from Goodison Park this time around.Lukaku has scored five goals in seven games since joining on loan from Chelsea, where he used to work under Villas-Boas.The Belgian was furious with his treatment by Villas-Boas during his time at Stamford Bridge, although the two have since buried the hatchet. The Spurs boss risked a spat with his own supporters last weekend after criticising the atmosphere at White Hart Lane during the 1-0 win over Hull.He may therefore be relieved to be on the road this weekend, although Everton are sure to make life tough for his side as they look to leap-frog them in the table. |
TOTTENHAM Team News |
Defender Danny Rose has still not recovered from a foot injury and will miss Tottenham's game at Everton on Sunday. Full-back Kyle Naughton has a 50 per cent chance of playing after suffering a thigh injury against Hull on Wednesday in the Capital One Cup.Winger Nacer Chadli (hamstring), striker Emmanuel Adebayor (foot) and defender Zeki Fryers (groin) are out, but winger Andros Townsend is fit after recovering from his nasty fall in last weekend's victory over Hull. |
Everton Team News |
Striker Arouna Kone is ruled out for Everton with a knee injury. Defender John Heitinga returns to the squad after sitting out the last two matches with a muscle problem.Fellow centre-back Antolin Alcaraz is recovering well from a hernia injury and is expected to make his debut later this month while midfielder Darron Gibson (knee) is the only other absentee. |
