Match Preview
Everton and Tottenham will both be looking to further boost their top-four credentials when they meet at Goodison on Sunday (kick-off 1.30pm).Since suffering their first Premier League defeat of the season at Manchester City early last month, Roberto Martinez's Toffees have seen off Hull and won at Aston Villa. They sit two places and one point below Spurs, who also beat Hull and Villa after kicking off October with a loss. In last season's equivalent fixture, Clint Dempsey put Tottenham ahead on 76 minutes but late goals from Nikica Jelavic and Steven Pienaar produced a triumphant conclusion for the hosts. Spurs have lost on their last three trips to the blue half of Merseyside, and their last victory there came in February 2007 when Jermaine Jenas hit a late winner.Villas-Boas' side will have to stop striker Romelu Lukaku if they are to come away with something from Goodison Park this time around.Lukaku has scored five goals in seven games since joining on loan from Chelsea, where he used to work under Villas-Boas.The Belgian was furious with his treatment by Villas-Boas during his time at Stamford Bridge, although the two have since buried the hatchet. The Spurs boss risked a spat with his own supporters last weekend after criticising the atmosphere at White Hart Lane during the 1-0 win over Hull.He may therefore be relieved to be on the road this weekend, although Everton are sure to make life tough for his side as they look to leap-frog them in the table.

TOTTENHAM Team News
Defender Danny Rose has still not recovered from a foot injury and will miss Tottenham's game at Everton on Sunday. Full-back Kyle Naughton has a 50 per cent chance of playing after suffering a thigh injury against Hull on Wednesday in the Capital One Cup.Winger Nacer Chadli (hamstring), striker Emmanuel Adebayor (foot) and defender Zeki Fryers (groin) are out, but winger Andros Townsend is fit after recovering from his nasty fall in last weekend's victory over Hull.
Everton Team News
Striker Arouna Kone is ruled out for Everton with a knee injury. Defender John Heitinga returns to the squad after sitting out the last two matches with a muscle problem.Fellow centre-back Antolin Alcaraz is recovering well from a hernia injury and is expected to make his debut later this month while midfielder Darron Gibson (knee) is the only other absentee.

We just lack a bit of magic in midfield. As tenacious Holtby is ad he played well, he is not a number 10.
_______

Agree. Doesn't have that knack of drifting into spaces where he can't be marked like ozil, mata, silva etc. think eriksen is the man for this job

----

at home yes, today holtby was the man for the job.... everton away... need to match them in work rate first and foremost. holtby did a lot of good work closing and stopping everton... thats part of the reason they couldnt get out their half in the first half... eriksen doesnt do that work...

Stretch the play with width, allows eriksen to slide passes through to soldado, crosses from wingers and paulinho to run deep..... Oh yeah and some quicker passing

I just wish we had a striker who could score a goal from open play once in while and bag us the points.

The only difference between us and Arsenal right now is the fact that clown Giroud can score goals, weve got a £26m waste of money

---

i could score goals in that arsenal side. they create chances for fun !. we dont.

not really soldados fault.

So basically we still another striker. I really think Harry Kane would have offered more than Soldado did today. His link up play was not up to standard. He is not very strong and hardly breaks sweat during a game.

One thing I did think was positive today was that we seemed to be playing with a bit more width on both sides which made quite a welcome change.
