The Big 6's thread NOW PLUS SPECIAL GUESTS

There are a number of threads on this site, where people just chat and talk about everything and anything. There are even some, on which people just post the same comments over and over again in order to see who can post the most comments.

All but one of those threads, has members who tend to be in their late teens, or early 20s. They are full of energy and innovation, and are really just embarking on life. I'm sure that any us older chaps would swap their youthful vitality for just about anything that we have. Young looks. A body at its peak. Endless hours of fun without commitment. A seemingly never ending future, where every day lasts for half an eternity, and unbridled horizons of hope and possibility. Of course, we would all take that back if we could, but sadly we can not.

What small mercy we do have to cling on to though, is the experience that our miles on the clock give us. It is an experience that not only makes us experts at self-management, but it is an experience which allows us to have a shared understanding of the world and its ways. That understanding, in turn, allows us to understand the ways in which aspects of life can be taken with a pinch of salt. We know that we can reflect on our weary bodies and joke about it. Being of a similar experience, we have a similar understanding.

There used to be a thread on this board, where people of such experience, such understanding, such age, could share their flippant observations about the world, without constant interruption from jack in the box teenagers looking forward to downing a case of snakebite, or discussing footballers being over the hill in their late 20s.

That thread was called the Good News thread. Actually, that isn't quite true, it was called Bad News From Croatia.

The Bad News From Croatia crew were a mottley assembly of 30 somethings. Largely failures it has to be said, but most of whom had had at least a taste of the high life, and who between them shared an experience that gave them a reflective calmness, and an ability to get things in proportions and take things in their stride. They understood each others' quirks and the like, and it all led to enjoyably, friendly and - beneath it all - respectful banter and other chatter.

It has come to my attention recently however, that the Bad News thread (now the Good News Thread) has become inunddated with the very youngsters that the thread used to give the older folks a bit of respite from. They weren't content with the half dozen or so other threads where they could throw pies at each other and talk about their upcoming 20th birthday celebrations. No. They had to come and pretend to be old and decrepit like the existing Bad Newsers.

Well, here's the thing. This thread, is solely for those with a bit of grey in their hair or a bit of stifness in their joints. This is a thread solely for those who have been there, tried that, seen the other, failed, started again, gone down a few different paths, etc.

This is the over 30s thread.

If you are over 30, and you would like to talk with other over 30s, without being drowned in a sea of eager youngsters, this is the place for you.

You can talk about whatever you like, but please : be over 30
