Thoughts on last night

Last night was the first game I've manged to get to in a while and despite getting an average result against a poor team, there are definately some positives to take from it.
Lamela has finally started to find his feet (a term I use slightly ironically as Sheriff did their best to hack him down at every opportunity). He did over do it a bit on occasions (one step over to many), but he is the sort of player we need to perform if we are to get results against teams that park the bus. One goal and one assist was definately well deserved for his efforts.
It was also good that the rest of the team seemed genuinely happy for him even Defoe who cut a fairly frustrated figure most of the night (lack of service again).
Other positives was the fact the lane was pretty much full for a Europa league game against a poor team with no opposition support in and the Park lane end which seemed even more noisy than usual.
Most of all though, we are through with two games to go!
Only negatives for me were that whilst squad rotation is good for resting players, it doesn't lead to much consistancy, especially when trying to bed in as many new players as we are. Players aren't quite reading each others runs that well still.
We were still a bit slow and ponderous at times when moving the ball out from the back, forwards were making runs and not being picked out, passes still generally going sideways.
And Brad, two games two shockers, Loris wouldn't have let that one in, we were caught napping though.
But as I say were are though, will be interesting to see what he does for the last two games, does he rest some of our thursday night squad to give the youth a run out, or stick with it as is to maintain game time for those on the fringes of the team? we shall see I guess.

Good article. I think Avb will use the next two games in the Europa to give game time to players that arent in our premier league team.

I would also like to see Archer, Veljcovic, bentaleb and Kane get some minutes.

Should have had a penalty.. our most direct attacking threat after Townsend imo. Must start against the barcodes!

Bale's, a 3-1 win by two penalties would have set the wolves on us for sure. As it was they hit the woodwork and went very close. I'm not happy with last night, yes we won but for goodness sake we must improve the scoring surely.

This was also the first game I have got to in a while, The thing that stood out for me was she shear amount of space on the flanks that was not utilized enough, wasted a couple of good counter attacking opportunities by cutting back into the middle of the park. a better performance than some recent games and a good noisy atmosphere in the park end.

Dawn

Our penalty count reflects the technical ability in our forward line these days.. and the fact Bale isn't throwing himself to the ground for us anymore.

Yes we must improve the goalscoring side but the way we work to press and keep the ball is impressive!
