Match Preview
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to ignore any criticism and continue their fine start to the season against Newcastle United on Sunday.Spurs are currently fourth in the Premier League after picking up 20 points from their opening 10 games, while they sealed their place in the knock-out stages of the Europa League with a 2-1 victory over FC Sheriff on Thursday night. However, the main talking point of the week has been the debate about whether Andre Villas-Boas was wrong not to substitute Hugo Lloris after the goalkeeper suffered a head injury in a collision with Romelu Lukaku during last weekend's 0-0 draw at Everton. The Goodison Park stalemate left Tottenham with just nine league goals to their name so far this season and Villas-Boas was not happy with the impatience of the White Hart Lane fans after the previous home league game against Hull City.Newcastle will be looking to further frustrate Spurs this weekend after keeping it tight against Chelsea last weekend before sealing a 2-0 win thanks to second-half goals from Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy. The victory over Jose Mourinho's side was the perfect way for the Magpies to respond after losing the Wear-Tyne derby against Sunderland and then suffering defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the Capital One Cup.The win also cemented Newcastle's position in the top half of the table, and Alan Pardew will now want his men to push on from ninth place.

TOTTENHAM Team News
Villas-Boas has confirmed goalkeeper Lloris will start Sunday's Premier League fixture at home to Newcastle. The France captain played on in the 0-0 draw at Everton despite being knocked unconscious and Villas-Boas will recall his number one after resting him for the 2-1 Europa League win over FC Sheriff.A number of other players can expect recalls but Danny Rose (toe), Sandro (hamstring), Zeki Fryers (groin) and Emmanuel Adebayor (foot) are all likely to miss out.
Newcastle Team News
Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini could return to the starting line-up at Tottenham. The central defender has missed the last four games with a groin injury, and his absence has coincided with that of Steven Taylor, who is not expected back from his hamstring problem until after the break for international matches. However, midfielder Cheick Tiote, who limped off against Chelsea last weekend with a muscle strain, is expected to resume at White Hart Lane.

We played well in the second half and created lots of chances. Erikson, Kaboul, Paulinho all should have scored. Soldado played very well but maybe should have scored in the first half. It is a dissappointing result but we looked far less lethargic than in previous games. Lets stop crying like children and support spurs.

Less lethargic than normal, talk about slow progress...

We played well. Other than their goal which was a paulinho mistake, they created nothing. We created enough chances to win the game comfortably. Good goal keeping and poor finishing cost us. AVB not to blame.

AVB not to blame.

-----

He should be blamed partly for the way he started the team which did nothing for the first 45 mins. Defoe turned out to be a poor sub too. He should have played Lamela at some stage.

i dont think defoe can be assessed on that personally. neither of them had any chances after defoe came on.

Not assessing Defoe but AVB. Defoe came on did nothing himself, and the team looked less threatening as well. It was a sub that therefore didn't work, and Lamela who after being the MOTM in midweek, should IMO have been used.
