When Will AVB Learn?

I really am sick of watching this dross every week and its actually infuriating. I remember when we prided ourselves on our home form; 2nd best to United, 2 seasons running! I am aware there will be posters that will refer me to our points tally and maybe even the league table, but the stats don't lie today; 65% possession, 24 shots, 11 corners and ZERO goals. I'm not having it that it was strictly down to Krul playing fantastically today.

- If you're playing Eriksen (who was rubbish again today) you play Sandro over Paulinho. Eriksen doesn't offer enough defensively and Sandro is "the top ball recoverer in the league". This shows massively in our stability in midfield when he plays and effectively allows us to play with a high line.

- Soldado just wasn't the signing we needed (should've bought Negredo when we had the chance!). I'm convinced he's class, but needs someone to feed off that isn't Eriksen, as they play in very similar areas of the pitch. He seems to want it on a plate, from the same repetitive and predictable attacking move, rather than running onto or attacking the ball. A new striker in Jan with this criteria is essential.

- Why start with Siggy wide left? If you play Townsend, it's CRUCIAL you play Lennon on the left (or visa versa) to maintain our width. By playing a winger and an CAM drifting in, it means 9/10 we will come inside to beat the fullback, which in turn, leaves us cluttered in the middle of the final third. Notice how when we started to go to the bye line and cut back in the second half, we created a lot more opportunities?! Thought Townsend produced very little today and Lennon or even Lamela would've offered more.

- Our tempo during our build-up play is actually rank. Mostly in the first half, so many sideways passes when a sprint into space or a pass forward is the much better option, if only to create space. Inverted wingers (one being Siggy and not Lennon )means we have to space to sprint into when we ever do find the space to go forward.

- Brad Freidel. Will never know why he was picked. A week on, with no reported backlash from the concussion, Lloris I'm sure is okay to play again and am sure he would've done better with Remy's goal. Brad has done some great things with Spurs, but a new number two is a must next summer.

We missed some key chances today, and could've played all day and still wouldn't have scored thanks to Krul having the game of his life against us. There is something about WHL where keepers seem to have absolute worldy performances against us, Krul and Jaaskelainen spring to mind.

It was encouraging to see that we kept knocking at the door until the end, but it's almost hard not to when there's 20 players in their half for an hour! Lets hope we reboot over the international break and come back focused, fighting and with a bit of imagination.
Sort It Out AVB!

I think AVB should just concentrate on the cups this season. Top four is not on now, you cannot lose at home to West Ham and Newcastle and expect anything other than maybe 7th or 8th.
Full strength teams in the cup, try to pick up some silveware.

Towsend needs benching, he was just running into blind alleys today, no end product.

We are struggling in the cup though aren't we? 8-7 in penalties against a newly promoted team? Totally pathetic.

People on here will hide behind the "Krul had a great game" line but if a shot/header is well enough executed then it dosn't get saved.

I agree about trying Townsend on the left rather than benching him. He's still a decent player and was heavily marked in this game. Give Lennon a chance on the right so you have 2 players with pace on either side.

Lamela should not be behind anyone based on his form midweek and the form from the players ahead of him today. Try him behind the striker instead of Eriksen who was completely pants.

Fair play to Newcastle today who deserved the win and soaked up the pressure when they had the goal to hang on to
