"Meanwhile, Rams boss Steve McClaren wants to sign Southampton midfielder Jack Cork in January."
If this is true, my opinion is that this is a 'stellar signing' perhaps the most exciting since Sethlad returned.
Admittedly, we have had some decent players since then, but hardly exciting at the time of signing.
Hope this is true, as he was instrumental in Southampton's promotion. Quality player.
Derby linked with an awesome player?..

Spart, I had a man's man from Essex say the same thing to me, today. He soon shut up after the girl sitting next to him knocked him around a bit. So much for the physical power of men. :P
Maybe brains would help them, too.

For those that remember the tv series bad girls, I'm no jim fenner. He was a mysoginistic barsteward.
And yeah jes ennis can throw a javelin further than me, but she is an elite olympic athlete and I'm a bloke from loughborough who has never thrown a javelin in my life. And yes there are stronger women than me but again they're the elite. In olympic weightlifting the equivalent male at sinilar bodyweight lifts about double the female. My best ever squat and deadlift were 175kg and 205kg respectively at a bodyweight of 87kg. You look at the elite female lifters and they won't be much higher thn that and that's their life and profession, assisted by coaches, dieticians and sports therapists. I did it training in a leisure facility eating what I wanted and having a sports massage once a month. So your points aren't really valid, and merely serve to back up the fact that equivalent to equivalent, females don't get close to males physically.

As for equestrian, well that's just riding a horse, gender doesn't come into it. If you can ride a horse well then that's all you need to do in equestrian. Being male or female has no bearing on your ability to train and control an animal.

Further to comments about men and women in tennis, here's what a tennis pro friend of mine had to say on the matter:
"...I don't think Serena would get anywhere near any of the top 100 men players. In fact she got well beaten by some guy a few years back who had a world ranking of about 999 & declined to challenge Andy Murray when it was suggested, admitting that she would no way match him. There is a huge gulf between the men's & ladies standard..."

What point are we trying to make here? For sure, sports which depend to a large extent on muscle mass will be overwhelmingly in favour of the male of the species. That doesn't mean that the sport will necessarily be less entertaining for the spectator if played by women. It's vanishingly unlikely that a woman will ever play in the professional football game but women's football may have something to teach us by being less dominated by physicality as the men's game is in this country and which is largely to do with the repreated failures of our national team.
So what if Serena Williams wouldn't beat the male pros? The issue in tennis, both the male and female games, is that power beats skill every time. See the young tennis players in any club and all they do is practice thrashing it as hard as they can. It doesn't make for an edifying spectacle. The rules of tennis could be changed to level the playing field a bit and allow magicians like McEnroe to come to the fore again. For sports like rugby obviously strength is pretty much everything, but in other sports we should do more to encourage skill, and then there is no reason why men and women can't compete together.
Sexists out.

Vidal: you are quite right. Who can forget the boring spectacle of Ivanisovich and Sampras whacking aces at each other in the Wimbledon final. Made me long for the days of McEnroe and Borg. It's also why some of the women's tennis matches have a better display of the full range of tennis shots, the more normal ones at least, rather than the cyborg-like Williams sisters attempts at firing it across the net like a bazooka.

Think Harper is missing the point which is common amongst all those who wish to discriminate. The difference between individuals is greater than the differences between races, sexes or any other group you care to mention.
Also if we wish to have competition then it is the practice in sports like boxing and weight lifting for people of similar physical characteristics to compete against each other.
So if people can compete on equal terms then they should be allowed to. If they can't the sport rules can be changed to allow fair competition. If a woman can prove she can cut it in the men's game I can't see any reason to prevent her competing other than prejudice.

I think I'll just sit out this sexism debate and say no more.
However I do know that 14YO can compete against and beat 99.78% of her male age, counterparts in Cross Country within the Derby City area..... and her dad......easily....
