The loss of Johnson for the Arsenal game, and his subsequent return performance v Fulham demonstrates just how pivotal he is to us in both a defensive and attacking perspective.
The majority of our attacks begin on the right with Glen, he is so adept at taking the ball and carrying it, he has a good passing range, can shoot with either foot, can cross and beats a player with ease.
You could see how we lost the whole right side as an attacking force at the Emirates when young Flanno came in, the lad did fine but you could see how many times a player looked right and instead of passing to Flanno they turned back inside as they weren't comfortable passing to him.
Now I'm not saying we would have beaten Arsenal with Glen playing, they of course had injuries of their own, but without him we really loose allot of our attacking imputes especially away from home as he is one of the best players in the squad we have at carrying the ball.
I think we really need to invest in a good back up to Glen as personally I don't think Flanno is good enough for us and I think Kelly will only make it as a CB and to be honest I don't think he ever will become a mainstay of our senior squad. Who do we sign? I don't know but hopefully our scouts do.
We always hear the myth that Glen can't defend which is pure rubbish, all of us who watch him know he is also a very good defender, sure he gets caught out from time to time but this is a fault with every modern fullback, he is not great in the air which for me is his biggest weakness but overall he is a top defender and a super attacking fullback.
So basically just wanted to say Glen is awesome and one of the PL's best fullbacks, he is pivotal to us as an attacking force (Stevie Finnan was the same all our attacks used to begin with him) and we desperately miss him when he is out.
Glen Johnson

It really doesn't work. You can't say, we won a draw.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well... You can.
acquire or secure as a result of a contest, conflict, bet, or other endeavour.
"there are hundreds of prizes to be won"
synonyms: secure, gain, achieve, attain, earn, obtain, acquire, procure, get, collect, pick up, walk away/off with, come away with, carry off; More
We acquired a draw through contest. We gained a point. Winning is all about how you interpret it. Crystal Palace are looking to avoid relegation. Not win the prem. If they do so, they have been victorious, thus, 'winning'. And a draw wins you a point, meaning there is an actual gain in drawing a match. You don't draw a point, you win a point. And how do you acquire 1 point in football? Through drawing. Thus, 'we won a draw' is correct.

As I pointed out to the first pedant, almost everyone of them I encounter on forums and social always end up getting tangled in their own web and looking stupid. Embarrassing.

The word 'successful' is synonymous to 'win'. To be successful is to accomplish a desired aim or result.
So for example.
A draw was our desired result. We accomplished getting the draw. We won our draw.
Like I said. It's not perfect. But it works.
You are taking the footballing meaning of 'won' and using it. When that's not the meaning he was using.

Today's word of the day Sheriff is
"pedant"
As in.....
I'm arguing about the use of
would and could because I'm a
pedant.
------
That would explain a lot. The few pedants I know tend to be fairly thick and being pedants is an attempt to override the insecurities they feel. And they tend to string themselves up in a web of their contradictions.
Fan claims the presence of 2 decent fullbacks would have won his team at least a draw away to the league leaders who regularly beat his team. I point out the absurdity of the statement's certainty. Mug pedant jumps in claiming that isn't what the fan said and giving his twisted interpretation. After repeatedly trying to drum it into mug pedant's thick skull what the fan actually said and it finally percolates, mug pedant gets into defining absurdity. It never occurs to mug pedant the notion isn't absurd to him cos he's a classic blinkered fan who needs a serious reality check. And then mug pedant goes on and on tediously about trifles.
Sad case.

Hmmm. If Palace draw their last game of the season, but others also draw meaning they stay up, it doesn't mean they have won the game does it. They haven't won their draw. It is a draw. You talk about it being synonymous with something. In no way is a draw synonymous with winning. You simply cannot have a draw that in the singular of that specific match, is a win. Over two legs, a draw can mean a win in the overall context of the match, but even then, a draw isn't a win.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like I said. When he said 'won his team a draw' he never meant 'gained 3 points for his team by gaining 1 point'. Just because we are discussing football, doesn't mean every word used has to be in context of football.
And now your getting it wrong. No one has said 'won their draw'. It's been 'won a draw' or 'won their team a draw'. 'Won their team a draw' is different to 'won their draw'.
The team drew with Arsenal. Johnson won them the draw.
