England and Roy...

Wasted 2 hours of my life last night confirming something I already knew.

What is it that makes 11 - 17 very good players look like complete chumps?

I don't hold with the idea that we don't have gifted players. These guys play in very good Prem teams and all fit into various systems that are mainly pleasing to the eye and usualy very efficient, Arsenal, Utd, Spurs, Southampton etc.
What then, when wearing an England shirt, makes them 'lump' it upfield completely bypassing a non-exisitant mid-field like it's still 1980?

A German 'B' team looked like World Cup winners last night.

I’ve said it before and I’ve said it again. The majority of English players play in teams that have better

England don't have the players to play a high tempo passing game, I think it's as simple as that. At club level, England players are surrounded by genuinely world class players. When they get together for England it's just a collection of players who run around a bit not doing much. Chile and Germany won in second or third gear. If they actually gave a shiet then I'm pretty sure they could have scored a few more.

I must have been one of very few Albion fans who was quite relieved when England took Hodgson off us. I thank him for the job he did here for a year and a half, but the football was awful at times.

To his credit I think he has tried to be a bit more offensive, but long-term I don't think he is the right man for England job. It requires a 'visionary', who might be prepared to overhaul things. Hodgson is a pragmatist, and this England side is no different to Capello's, Mclaren's or Sven's.

Anyway thank God these seemingly endless international breaks are out of the way and we can concentrate on the proper stuff.

In my 'umble opinion, the problem lies with the number of 'Johnny Foreigners' playing in the English Prem and Championship leagues.

How we can be expected to produce a good national side from around only 20% English players who play at a top level, I don't know. And of course, we at West Brom are as guilty of the number of non-English players as other clubs. Southampton are perhaps an exception.

We shall never become a Spain, Germany or Brazil without a drastic review of our system.

Saints?

Don't let the fact they have Llana and Lambert in the England squad fool you.

Other than a few English 'youth' players...the rest are foreigners.

We have Jones, Ridge, Foster and Saido which is probably about the same as Saints.

I am completely underwhelmed at the thought of watching England friendlies, and I avoid them. As practice sessions, I think they're a complete waste of time. We don't seem to learn anything meaningful from them. The team is a mishmash, with more players on the subs' bench than there are on the pitch. England too often offer nothing going forward, and we can never seem to sort out the midfield.

I just don't 'get' what Roy is trying to do with England. Even the commentators were confused as to what 'system' was employed.

Brazil should be a 'laugh'...
