England's Bowlers

Well 91 overs into the Sri Lanka innings, just 2 wickets, 344 runs conceded and Broad approaching his century!

Why the huge difference from the previous test? It seems its all about favourable conditions for our bowlers, no real idea how to take wickets when conditions are not in their favour?

Goodness knows how many the Indians are going to make, assuming all their top players are fit (and able to take the time off from their IPL committments) to represent their country later this summer.

Something a year ago I never thought I would say is that I think Bresnan is a real loss to England, possibly as much if not more than Anderson. For me Broad is proving yet again that he is not one of the best 3 fast bowlers in England. When is the penny going to drop with the England hierarchy, will he still be described as promising when he is 35 and played countless Tests with very moderate success?

We miss Anderson and Bresnan but both are unfit and unable to play and who we got?
Broad, Tremlett and Finn, nothing wrong with them nor the pitch, just Sri Lanka showing what they can do.

How about these highly paid cricketers representing England turn up for 5 days every test match.
Lacking - dedication, pride, backbone and consistency.
Oh yes! A few more Englishmen in the side would be nice.

....................................

Every sportsman from every game has bad ones at times, no one can turn up for 5 days of cricket every single game.

Lacking - dedication, pride, backbone and consistency

Where this comes from is beyond me, everytime we bowl badly there has to this kind of reaction, forget every thing our bowlers have done recently, one or two bad days and thwey get accused of this.

All the bowlers are English, and this thread is about bowlers

So shall we forget the 3 innings victories in australia, the innings victory in the first test and accuse these bowlers of lacking pride and backbone, because of one poor performance, amazing

Do you give any credit to some brilliant batting from Sri Lanka ?

the problem is not with the bowlers....lords pitch these days is one of the flattest you'll see anywhere in the world...
having said so,i also believe that broad is not the top 3 fasty in england..would have bresnan and other county performer over him anyday...

I would very much agree with what you say over Broad, i think the guy is struggling, the problem he has is he pretty much only plays for england, he has no where to go and work on his game and get wickets. A stint with Notts would do him good.
Bresnan seems to becoming more important to England the longer he doesn't play. He deserves his chance again after the ashes.

I wouldnt drop Broad - I just worry he has become too senior too fast - the T20 captaincy is not a great decision imo but time will tell - I dont see how he can open the bowling thats all - as a first change bowler he is fast enough and aggressive and he doesnt really let us down - form is a strange thing. Chopping and changing the team on the back of 1 or 2 games is not a policy I want back in the England setup - we have become a good side over the years by keeping a good team ethic - we have lost anderson and it has done some harm - a 75% new inexperienced attack is not the answer - not at this point of the season anyway

And today they bowl !
Broad should not be sent back to Notts, what for??? He belongs in the England team, and will retire with a good test record. Confidence, attitude, anger in the belly and a good line&length for the pitch & weather conditions is all I ask from any bowler. The desire to represent your country should always be reason enough to turn up and play FIVE days.

Off day for all plus a pitch with nothing in it for any bowlers. On another note Finn got roundly criticised but got 4 of the top 6 out in the first innings not bad for a young man making his way give him time.
