which promotes the selection of players with less ability to play in attacking positions in the name of tracking back is the bane of British football and will soon be the bane of United if we don't take a second look at the backroom staff at the club.
The excuse for selecting such players has always been they track back, they work their socks of for the team and they help to defend set pieces etc when the empirical evidence says otherwise. This way of thinking is gradually curbing the teams ability to be creative and we will soon become a hoof ball team. It's even more dangerous as it may lead to us not being able to attract technically gifted players to the club anymore.
The British philosophy

This!! Seriously in that first half I thought I was watching a tennis match. The ball was consistently in the air. Evans got frustrated and even started to drive forward as there were no options to pass too.

Couldn't have put better. Perfect article 5stars.
Welbeck and Cleverley are the key examples
And then people have the nerve to say that I hate British players.

as good as smalling is defensively he is not a full back and offers very little going forward, his combination with valencia is just not good enough in terms of creativity as valencia is not so creative himself.

Why play Smalling when we have Fabio in the wings?

4/5 players should have no trouble keeping hold of the ball in their own half against 2/3 opponents. Chile were brilliant at it last week vs. England. Baffles me that control/passing aren't the most encouraged facets of the game.

Tracking back isn't a problem, every team has players who help out defensively whilst being creative when they are on the ball.
The problem is that some of the players just aren't good enough compared to what we have had previously.
