No kids on the block.

Well actually there was one; Danny Batth. But it did occur to me this evening while watching the Tranmere game that most of the "kids" that some on 'ere were calling for had been dropped from the first eleven.

No Doherty, Price, Evans, Ebanks-Landell, Siggy or Zeli.

So, was it a coincidence that our best performance in ages coincided with the dropping of the "kids"?

Has Kenny finally conceded that "you win nothing with kids"?

"Young players need game time"

This is so true, and highlights how disappointing it is that we failed miserably to progress in any of the 3 cup competitions when we could have given them a run out.

Absolutely Larry, we should have fielded very young teams in each of those games.

Siggy might look like a kid but he's waaaaay older than someone you would expect to cut some slack.

Anybody burning their Lost Prophets albums?

Siggy is nearly 23. If he's not good enough for League One now, it doesn't bode well.

Personally I haven't put siggy in the youngster category.
Hopefully we get some money for him and move on.

Its actually quite an experienced team we are fielding nowadays and the younger players are going to have to wait their turn for now. Although no big deal has been made about it publicly the truth is Jackett is under enormous pressure to deliver promotion this season and we need to introduce the young players gradually as they will inevitably be inconsistent in their early games. The likes of Price, Evans, Ebanks Landell and Ismail have all shown promise but have only about 20 games experience between them for Wolves so they wont be used regularly this season.

Doherty, Batth, Ikeme, Davis and Sigurdarson have all much more experienced and are, or should be, ready to play regularly

Davis has been a big disappointment all told, very inconsistent despite 100 games or so for us.

Davis needs to improve his passing. He has been giving the ball away a lot and that gets noticed. Sadly it overshadows the fact that there are plenty of good things about his game. He closes people down well, he wins lots of tackles, and he has great energy and has the potential to be a very good defensive midfield player. But giving the ball away half a dozen times a game gets noticed more than all that unglamorous stuff and he needs to wipe those poor passes out of his game.

To be top of the table and only lost the one game, I think the whole squad has done very well and that includes the times the so called kids have played. I think Doherty was rested against Tranmere as he was just coming back from a hamstring injury.

KJ needed to strengthen the midfield and has done so by bringing in 3 players with experience in this division. The kids will get some game time as it's a busy Xmas period and if we're in a strong position come the end of the season, I'm sure KJ will want to see them starting more games.

I think the real question now may be whether it is a coincidence that our performances have deteriorated since slowly dropping some of the kids.
