In the wake of Martin Jol's dismissal, the rebuilding work at Fulham begins in earnest with a derby against Tottenham Hotspur. The Cottagers took the decision to relieve Jol of his managerial duties on Sunday, with the Dutchman paying the price for a sorry run of five straight defeats.Rene Meulensteen - a man brought in to work as head coach just three weeks ago - has been promoted to the top post, with many of the opinion that his appointment at Craven Cottage was the beginning of the end of Jol.There is, however, a job to be done on the banks of the Thames, with Fulham's inability to bring the best out of a talented but badly underperforming squad leaving them languishing inside the drop zone.A meeting with a local rival would not normally be considered an ideal starter for a new boss, but Spurs have issues of their own to address at present.Andre Villas-Boas saw his side put in a much-improved display during a 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, and vented his anger afterwards at unsettling reports regarding his future. He does not appear to be in immediate danger of heading the same way as Jol, but a run of four games without a win has left Spurs in ninth place - 10 points adrift of league leaders and arch enemies Arsenal.Any hopes they held of challenging for the title may be starting to fade, but the top four and a return to the UEFA Champions League is still there to be shot at for an expensively-assembled outfit.

Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor is still struggling with a groin problem and is therefore a major doubt for the London derby. Midfielder Christian Eriksen (ankle), defender Danny Rose (toe) and striker Harry Kane (back) are all out.Manager Andre Villas-Boas has to decide whether to keep faith with floundering forward Roberto Soldado, or recall Jermain Defoe.
Fulham Team News
Fulham right-back Sascha Riether will return from a three-match suspension for new manager Rene Meulensteen's first game in charge. Forward Moussa Dembele will be assessed after picking up a minor hamstring problem in the 3-0 defeat at West Ham.Defender Brede Hangeland could be back after a sciatic nerve problem, while striker Dimitar Berbatov is also expected to be fit following illness. Striker Hugo Rodallega (groin) and defender Matthew Briggs continue their rehabilitation.
Bring on Sunderland! 7 points from Man Utd at home and two away games will do us nicely. I really think having Rose and Ade back will give us a lot more balance and options. Any idea when Ade will return?
Look at the positives here, we're 3 behind a Liverpool team that is being carried by Luis Suarez and we've been playing terribly. Everton are the ones I really want to drop points at the moment, think they could be right in the mix for top 4 at the end of the season.
An injury to Lukaku and they'll struggle. Think they've got enough back up elsewhere. Delofou (sp?) might be able to play up top actually. I also really rate Martinez, was hoping Spurs were going to go after him.
