Guardian likening Moyes to Major

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/dec/10/david-moyes-john-major-sport-politics-fail-manchester-united

For one thing, football is not remotely like politics so any comparison between Moyes and John Major is utter rubbish.

For another, Moyes has been in the job for 6 months for crying out loud. Ferguson had been in the job for years before he achieved success and almost got the club relegated.

Let's face it, last season made the team look good but we all know that certain areas of the team have been below standard for a good 4/5 years. Any manager was going to struggle so it is time for the owners to put the cash up and allow Moyes to strenghen in January and next summer.

PS if saying that Moyes = Major, does that mean that Ferguson = Thatcher?

I have been growing more and more frustrated with the Guardian lately.

Thatcher >> Major >> Blair

Sir Alex >> Moyes >> Klopp

You reckon Klopp will be United manager after Moyes?

But surely the article is suggesting that following a successful leader, the following one came in and found it tough to maintain the levels of his predecessor leading to rivals taking advantage.
In the political one it was Thatcher putting the Cons in control, only for Major to lose out to Tony Blair and Labour.

it's a vile left wing rag

As opposed to the vile right wing rag known as the Daily Mail? The Guardian is still a better paper than that.

don't disagree, but what the DM has to do with it I don't know

What a wast of column space utter drivel, Moyes is his own person and we all thought the best time to take over UTD would be the person after Moyes not to follow Fergie, coz his records would be the stick to beat you with.

I don't think the board or the manager needs to change it's the fans and their expectations that need adjusting.

At the beginning of the season most utd fans on here still thought they would win the league , and maybe the CL at a push, on the other hand other supporters could see this wasn't a great team, put a constant winning machine under Fergie, I can only see this continuing for another few years yet?

Rubbish. Very few United fans said we would win the league. Possibly though, because Robb posts so often, you confused one serial poster with many fans,

I imagine for most scousers it would be a toss-up as to who they dislike most, so the comparison is quite apt.
However, SAF was a big supporter of new Labour and did communicate quite a bit with Alastair Campbell and Tony Blair, so arguably both Blair and Ferguson are the heirs to Thatcher having taken a lot of what made her successful and used it themselves....
which is why many people find all three of them to be rather disagreeable

well, i study media and communication here in germany, and the guardian is regularly cited as the best newspaper in the western world.
maybe tied with the new york times.

-----------------------------------------------

I'd certainly argue that the Guardian is the best newspaper in Britain, although i rarely read it as i get most of my news via watching the news or the internet.

Just a shame it sold out to the Lib Dems at the last election.

I've said since day 1 that Arsenal will win the league and that this will be a transitional season.

I might be optimistic but i'm not stupid
