Ashley Young is on £65k p/w
Stewart Downing is on £50k p/w
Sell Stephen Warnock (£5m) Stephen Ireland (£5m) Habib Beye (£2m) and Richard Dunne (£4m) . Players on big wages who offer very little. This would give us £16m. Then use this money to invest in the talent we ALREADY have!
Pay Ashley Young £100k p/w (an extra £2m a year)
Pay Stewart Downing £90k p/w (an extra £2m a year)
Get them both on 4 year contracts = an extra £16m
---------I will add, this amount of money for players is obscene, but if it's the going rate then thats what we have to do-----------
How to keep Young & Downing at Aston Villa!

Villalad that could be an option although would prefer to keep Young.
With no manager in place, we could lose Young to Manyoo, even though supporters seem to think he's not good enough and lose NZogbia to Scousers.

i know i was just been realistic, He has a year left on his contract he obviously wants to go at the min. So better to make some money off him now than let him go for nothing at the end of the season.
Dont get me wrong wud love to see a new manager to come in and convince him to stay though!!

Everthing is just rumour at the min i suppose, Wud be a great addidtion to the team, Especially if we cud keep young and fit them both into the team scary thought downing, young, N'zogbia and bent.
We can dream haha

N'zog would cost much more as his agent will be creaming himself at the thought of selling him to the highest bidder

But why would you want to pay 90k aweek to Downing?. A very average player imo, ok he may well have been our player of the season but hey thats no real recommendation is it given what we have witnessed. He is way too inconsistant and as someone else pointed out N'zogbia would be a perfect replacement. If someone wants to offer us something close to our money back i say lets do it.

I don't think it's down to maths. The club has already made a stand over salaries this season. GH was gven the task of reducing the wage bill, which was huge under MON. Then in recent weeks the club refuses to bow to NRC's was demands. If you believe the rumours, both parties were 3k a week apart. Small change in today's market.
I think the only way to keep Young is to get someone like Ancelotti in. This sends out a huge statement of intent. If, however, Ash has United on his mind, he might still be gone.
Downing still has two years on his contract, so no panic there... yet!
The good news is that Albrighton has really shone this year. So as least we have a pretty good fallback plan. But bowing to ridiculous wage demands in not the way the club will go in future seasons. It's simply not sustainable.

And who is going to pay 2m for Beye anyway...

Get the right manager in and the right players will want to stay. The way for Villa to succeed is to play quality football, and a manager who can install that, who can command respect and can build on Villa's strengths (young players coming through etc) and grow a genuine team spirit will make it less likely they'll drift of into some imagined Manchester utopia. I'd go for Rijkaard, partly because I can't figure out how Ancelotti would play it, but maybe Ancelotti would be OK as well.
