Match Preview |
Tottenham host West Brom at White Hart Lane on Boxing Day as they look to reassert pressure on the Premier League top five and pursure their European ambitions. Both sides have endured a tempestuous period in the build-up to Christmas with Tottenham sacking Andre Villas-Boas as manager and West Brom treating Steve Clarke in exactly the same way. While the Baggies continue their search for a successor to Clarke, Spurs have given Tim Sherwood - who initially took caretaker charge - a contract until the end of the 2014/15 season.Spurs will be hoping the managerial changes will ignite their season and lead to a resurgence so they can fulfil their Champions League ambitions.Consistency will be the key for Tottenham if they are to make the top four come May, which will include making a decision on formation.Sherwood opted to play two strikers up front against Southampton at St Mary's and the system paid dividends as Roberto Soldado partnered Emmanuel Adebayor, who netted two goals, up front in the 3-2 victory. While Tottenham have the best away record in the top flight, with six wins on the road, their home form has been less encouraging, with only three White Hart Lane victories. On the other hand, West Brom find themselves in a precarious position, just three points above the relegation places in 16th.Keith Downing has accepted temporary charge since the dismissal of Steve Clarke but has ruled himself out of a permanent posting with the club. The Baggies board have stressed the importance of finding the right manager in order to retain their Premier League status but with no decision imminent, fans would be forgiven for fretting over the future. The corresponding fixture last term ended 1-1, with Benoit Assou-Ekotto putting the hosts in front before James Morrison claimed a late equaliser for the Baggies. |

West Brom Team News |
West Brom caretaker manager Keith Downing has just one injury worry to contend with ahead of their trip to North London. Striker Victor Anichebe is a doubt after struggling with a groin problem throughout the week.Goalkeeper Ben Foster made his return, ahead of schedule, from a foot injury in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Hull City and has reported no negative reaction. |
