It's the end of the year. We're top of the league and 4 points clear. Probably the most exciting game of the season and not even Miami is posting. Is 606 that unpopular? Is there nothing to complain about? Are we all still in the bars celebrating?

Dougie Freedman has this evening expressed the view that City are "(by) a million miles... the best team in this division..."
Even though it is arrant nonsense, spouted by a manager whose team has just shipped five after he completely altered its line-up since winning the pervious match, it is oddly nice to hear.

Celebrate!
It may well all goes t**ts up.
Supporting teams such as Leicester is a hard row to hoe. Seize the day, enjoy the moment. Life is short.

I've read every post this season but this is the first time I've posted this season.
I can quite believe how well things are going but like a number of other contributors I still bare the scars from lasts seasons collapse.
However, there is certainly more experience in this seasons team and a real toughness. We'd have lost today's game last season.
If we can get Wood fit and firing along with 1-2 signings we'll have a real chance.
So far so good but it's only the half way point. However another 48 points from the next 23 games and I'm sure we'll be up!

Would have to be one almighty collapse to not at least make top 6.
11 points better off than the same stage last year.
86 pts should see us up, win halfish (12) of our remaining games puts us on 84 plus the odd draw in there and bingo
Sounds easy when you put it like that

We are developing a gap at the top now, which is important for a confidence perspective and also so other teams look at us and think, well they're going up automatically.
A win at the New Den on Wed and then our annual beating of the sheep (which is going to be much harder than it normally is but still achievable) and we could well be 7 or even 10 points clear at the top...!
Someone has got to win the league so why can't it be us???!

One more win should make us safe from relegation

Donington - you say we'd have lost this last season... well, we pretty much did lose this game a few weeks back at Sheffield Wednesday. Then, just like today, we came out like a train, scored an early goal, then got complacent in midfield and watched as they grabbed two goals of their own. The difference today was that it looked like the belief was back in the side and that was the thing that delighted me the most. It goes a long way in the Championship to not know when you're beaten.
If I was in the team, I'd be trying my best not to look at the gap though. The gap between 2nd, 3rd, 7th or whatever you want to see is for the fans to get excited about at this stage of the season but not the players. For them, it still has to be about simply accumulating all that you can and letting the league table take care of itself, thereby trying to put off the inevitable end-of-season scrap for every point as long as possible. Our next matches are Millwall away and Derby at home. Both are tough matches for very different reasons and need to be approached without the concern of what the teams behind us might do.

The thing is that if you measure our progress using the only tool that matters, the League Table, then we are the best team in the division. Maybe not by a million miles, but the best team nonetheless.
The question now is whether our squad has the depth and capability to maintain our position. Last season our loss of form was dramatic in the 2nd half of the season and we only recovered just in time.
I'm hoping that Nigel is given some leeway by the owners to strengthen in January. I don't think we need many players, but probably just two or three to keep the squad fresh. I would predict that QPR and Forest might be very active in the January market, which is not necessarily a good thing, but we should be alive to the possibilities.
Last year we were level pegging with Hull City at about this time of year. They were more active than us in January and went up whilst our young squad failed to show the required endurance. Whether we're more capable a year on is a point of debate, but ultimately the calls we make now may decide how close we'll finish in May.

Alright ladies and gents.
I was lucky enough to get to the game today as over here in sunny Leicester for Xmas/New Year. What a great game to be at.
Apart from some shocking defending, I thought we played some lovely attacking football.
Hopefully the owners find a few pounds to give to Nigel to bring in a couple of new players in Jan to freshen things up (winger and forward)
A great feeling to be top of the table going into the New Year and now the sheep sha**ers game is set up very nicely.
Happy New Year all, Have a good one.

Dunge-I was at the Sheff Weds game too and said around the 20 min mark yesterday that I feared this game was going the same way. Big difference yesterday was that we were very clinical for a change and took the chances when they came. There's been games this season where we've created treble the amount we created yesterday and only scored one or two.
In addition to being clinical, the big thing that won us the game yesterday was the desire shown in the second half. Sometimes a team at the top has that extra desire and and an extra gear when you get deep into the second half. We couldn't do it last year, fingers crossed we've got it this time!
