Youth in our team.....

Anyone up for some positivity to perk up those alcohol soaked brains????

After a poor showing yesterday with a depleted defence, I couldn't help but notice that 8 out of the 14 that played were 22 or youndger. I think that does look good for the future of the club, and however much I think Kean needs to go and we should get sparky back, at least he is building a team of decent looking young players.

Formica looks like he can play, Olsson impresses me every time I watch him and I can't believe no clubs have been linked with him this summer. he would fit in at Arsenal as full back but looks more dangerous for us as a winger because for the past few season we have watched Peds creep down the wing passing the ball instantly when someone gets near him. When we get our first choice DF back I would like to see him and Hoilett on either wing.

Nzonzi is not a centre half but in midfield he is quite a player, Rochina could be a good with a run of games under his belt, Hanley may develop into a decent player if he had Samba or Nelson beside him looked suspect from the little I have seen of him, Hoilett is obviously a different class.

And the signing we have made this summer so far Goodwillie, Petrovic, that Mong if he manages to get his work permit sorted..... and not to mention Myles Anderson! All young players and I will wait for a few games before making my mind up about them....

If you look at the clubs with long running histories of success they all invest heavily into youth, namely United and Arsenal, with United doing it slightly different by spending big on players who have huge potential.

What we lack at this point in time is a solid backbone of experience! Yesterday we can up against a Wolves team with their youngest player being 24, mainly a team of 27yo +. I know we were missing key players at the back who will make a difference but I don't our current crop of experience is good enough especially our midfield. I must admit I like Roberts in that role and gives us a chance to bring our flair players into game and the penalty area.

Kean is apparently having a meeting with Fergie on Monday to discuss taking Macheda and/or Welbeck on loan....I would have either but I don't think that is what we need, we have got promising young forwards who already don't play.....I would have Welbeck every day of the week but Macheda might feature like Diouf did last season.

One minute...I thought i was being positive here....

While i like how we are setting our team up we are not in a position to be relying so much on the younger player in our squad. If we don't sure up our team it could be another season of being in the bottom 5.

On another note, Salgado is and will always be a hero but how many freekicks/ pens is he going to give away before we realise he is too slow to be playing in the premiership. I worry his legacy will be diluted if he carries on much longer and end being remembered as the guy who played at Rovers for a few seasons and got skinned every week....

So SK/Venkys please put a bit of this PJ money into some experience to build around the great looking young squad we have got!

Kind regards,

Nice one MOTAD.

That's cheered up an eternal optomist who's been thoroughly depressed since twenty five past three yesterday.

The youth is good, if it supplements a bit of experience. Arsenil are a good example, who do they turn to when the going gets tough. And let's face it the going will get tough a lot this year.

Only saw the GoodWillie shot on motd but it's what I like in a striker - knew where the goal was, found a yard and hit early.

That's about as much as I can manage... I tried!
