A Critique of Jack

Many say that Jack has the potential to the best English midfielder our country has seen in a long, long time. His ability to glide past players and create openings from sheer technical ability are two of his best qualities. Wenger thinks his best position is as a deep-lying midfielder, which allows him to put his best two assets to great effect.

But he does have some glaring problems with his game, which I can't decide if they are down to form or due to weaknesses he's always had.

When trying to 'unlock' a defence, he regularly over dribbles, runs into a dead-end and gives the ball away, causing our team to sprint back to defend a counter attack.

He is one of our players who is most prone to giving a loose pass, either due to a lack of awareness of those around him or just a lack of concentration.

Despite being fiesty in the tackle, due to his physical stature when he is on the ball and under pressure he rarely wins any physical battles.

If he does play in a deep-lying role, his defensive qualities are nowhere near good enough. He is often too lax on the ball as stated above, and he really does prefer to attack than defend! At the moment I really worry that he will be our weak link when I see his name on the teamsheet.

If the above is down to poor form due to returning from injury then that's ok. It took Ramsey a good season and a half to reach decent form after his return. Also Jack is a year younger.

Are these criticisms fair? Do you think Jack will turn into the player we all want him to? If so, will he dominate 2014 in the same way that Rambo did this year?

If Jack can be as successful for Arsenal as Rooney has been for Man U I will be very happy. Unlike Rooney though, I hope he can replicate it for the national team.

So are his current 'limitations' down to poor form, down to the fact he hasn't finished developing yet or down to it not being within his ability to ever put them right?

Wilshere has more natural talent than Scholes, Gerrard and Lampard. Those midfielders all had different attributes but with Jack he has a bit of all their styles within him. In terms of running a midfield he can better all 3 however he will really need to improve on his goal scoring and shooting to match them statistically.

Wilshere has a screw in his ankle. That affects his passing because he is unable to judge the speed of the pass. Slow passing obviously looks as if the pass is inaccurate because the player has moved from his position. So he is more deliberate and that obviously slows down the passing movements of the entire team. Thus making it harder for us to break down the opposition.

Thankfully the screws will come out as his ankle get stronger and we will get Wilshere of all that potential back.

Embarrassing load of nonsense.

Sheriff

Yes he does that's why Dani Alves said he'd buy him for Barca if he could. He has the drive of Gerrard and vision of Scholes in his locker. He's more complete talent-wise but he obviously will have to show it.

The 10-11 season showed exactly what he's capable of and there's certainly more capabilities than most former England stars

Wilshere is showing various facets of his talent, his dribbling, passing, creativity, movement, and ability to score some incredible goals. The problem is that he is missing one important ingredient, consistency. And he has a tendecny to try to play his way out of trouble whne things aren't working for him, as opposed to keeping things simple. This will improve as he plays more and more since its similar to the issues that Ramsey was facing.

Wilshere is a year or more behind Ramsey in coming back from a long term injury and look at what people were saying about Ramsey a year ago. Wilshere is showing a lot of good signs and people forget how young he is and the fact he missed over a year of playing. He will come good.

Sorry, bro. Wilshere couldn't lace Scholes' boots. Scholes is the best passer of the PL era and an all-time great. Wilshere probably misplaces more passes than all our midfielders. No basis for comparison at all.

He doesn't have Gerrard's drive either.
