I don’t think many of us are too concerned about the result of the upcoming FA Cup fixture against Stoke.
It will be very unlike that fateful day on the 4th of May 2008 which was probably the most devastated I have ever felt after watching any game of football. We had finally hit rock bottom, relegated to the third tier for the first time in our history and the road back looked long and hard.
In hindsight it wasn’t so bad and the brief foray into “Division Three" turned out to be quite a fun ride, but one I hope is never repeated. However, if we hadn’t managed to bounce back in one season, I sometimes wonder what might have happened. Certainly Milan would have had a much harder job unloading us on any prospective buyers.
Now here we are with dreams of Premier league football….. it could all so easily have been very different.
It Doesn't Get Much Worse

What a terrible day that was!
Even now I still think about McCaulley's header hitting the post! I was also interviewed (almost in tears) by Rob Dorset live on Sky Sports on the way out of the ground. Not my finest hour.
In hindsight the relegation and subsequent promotion helped us but it didn't feel like it on that rainy afternoon.
Got to be honest, I'd love a win there on Saturday!

That day was made even worse by the fact that we were relegated with a record points tally and the fact that about 4 results had to go against is for us to go down.
They all did - I was mortified and you couldn't get a word out of me for a few hours.
All the more reason to enjoy our current form. Most enjoyable football since the good times under O'Neil. Even under Adams we were efficient rather than entertaining.
Pearson has proven to all the doubters that he's no dinosaur and able to put out a team playing nice football and getting results.

Not sure about "all", but speaking personally I am now prepared to agree that he has done this.
