Roberto Martinez has responded to reports Manchester United could be set for a £50m bid for Ross Barkley by insisting it would only be enough to sign the youngster on loan.
Barkley has been one of the shining stars in Everton’s flying start to the season, attracting attention from across the Premier League.
Manchester United and Chelsea have both been linked with moves for the 20-year-old midfielder in January, but Toffees boss Martinez has categorically ruled out selling the England international.
‘Fifty million? We wouldn’t let anyone out on loan in January,’ Martinez joked. ‘We are in a strong position financially.
‘When you have to bring in money, then it can be a real difficult position as you can be anxious and frustrated.
‘When you have to make financial decisions the squad will not benefit but when you make football decisions then you are in a strong position.
‘If we can, we are going to add a couple of new faces and make sure we are stronger when the window closes.’

comment by 1984 China (U11181)posted 49 minutes agoWell Arouna, Phil used Ronaldo's sale as an example, and if that's acceptable by Phil and you, then my comment is acceptable too. It's not like Rooney was the only important player that left you lot for a big sum.If you want to make serious comments than do so. Or was I suppose to take Phil's comment about the Ronaldo transfer seriously? Hell, I don't take the £50m comments by the press seriously

So you are working on your feelings.....not the reasons behind any of the transfers over the last 11 years.
So stop saying Kenwright will sell, just one question.....
What value is the new PL rights deal for each club. If you dont know, its the reason we have no need to sell.
Fellaini - Asked to go...
Rodwell - Moyes decided to sell
Arteta - took a pay cut and pushed a transfer through to join Arsenal.
The list goes on.......But you think its all down to Bill
You clown rag follower.

Rodwell went because he's sadly made of glass, DM got a good price for a player who spend half his time on the treatment table.

Thats just lies HMM...
Bill sold him, give him enough money and there is nothing he wont sell.

Haha, Everton fans all riled up. I just said things the way yourselves put it.
Someone mentions you only sold your best players when you wanted to, but then someone else contradicts them.
You guys are sounding like the spurs fans.
Tell just put it plainly. Ross Barkley isn't worth £50m. There are better players for less. If any team is daft enough to pay that, Bill and Martinez will bite their hands off for it.
Now, if you truly think that Everton will turn down a £50m bid for Ross Barkley, then you are deluded. That's last thing I'll say on the matter. Happy New Year.

The boy was immense at times today.
The £50 million is paper talk for now.
At his current rate of progress? Who knows how much he will be worth in 18 months time.
