so Southampton have filed an official complaint against him for personal abuse against Lallana.
Can't wait for the outcry against them for this.

"The thread isn't about whetherhe has a case to answer it is about why Southampton aren't being castigated, as Chelsea were, for submitting a complaint at all. If you can take your bias blinkers off for 2 mins you may recall the
Mikel incident and the article and comments made about Chelsea
submitting the complaint at all regardless of whether it was true
or not. There is not a shred of difference here but Southampton are hardly being castigated as
we were. The substance of the complaint has zero to do with it."
Paranoid load of rubbish. Southampton didn't accuse the ref of racist abuse. That alone would have caused a storm. Neither did any of their players threaten the ref. If you can't see a shred of difference, maybe you need to take the blinkers off. Too many paranoid fans around claiming victimhood. From Chelsea to Spurs to Liverpool to Man Utd to Stoke. It's pretty pathetic. And you have the cheek to call the guy biased?

Chelsea did not accuse him of racist abuse either. The complaint was EXACTLY the same as Southamptons and was submitted under the FA Rules of Inappropriate Conduct. So they are exactly the same. The substance of the complaints has zero to do with the reaction to the 2 clubs involved for submitting a complaint.

yes but our captain had just been to court accused of racial abuse, found innocent, then punished by FA for a crime he had been found innocent of in court. It was therefore heaven for the media when one of players claimed he had been abused by an FA backed official

Putting all this bickering aside, I do agree with you Biggish - I think anyone who swears at the ref should receive a red card. Full stop. Players would stop swearing after one week.
And further than that, I think players who complain at refereeing decisions at all should receive yellow cards. Referees make mistakes, like we all do - but we need to complain about them after the game not during. I was one of the worst when I was playing - I would moan at referees all the time, and I'm embarrassed about that now. But if the system forbids you from doing that at all - you just wouldn't do it. It's like rugby - nobody shouts at the referee there. Or basketball in the US.

Say my name, even if the complaint was under the same procedure the allegations are different and of course anything to do with Chelsea and race after the John Terry case was going to be highlighted. Also like all clubs do, mistakes were made. A complaint involving Mata was made and quickly retracted. I thought the allegation involving Ramires was to do with him believing he had been called a 'monkey', which is the race angle.
Blarmy, I am not going behind the verdict in the Terry case, but Terry tried to have the case dismissed at the end of the prosecution case on the basis he had no case to answer. The Judge found he had a case to answer and also acquitted Terry from memory on the basis he could not rule out the possibility that Terry believed Ferdinand had said the words that no one else heard. The FA with a lower burden of proof were going to be forced to proceed against him.

The exchange in question is believed to have occurred after Clattenburg had turned down vociferous Southampton appeals for a penalty.
The Southampton letter claims Clattenburg said to Lallana: "You are very different now, since you've played for England. You never used to be like this."

if that's all he said, then people need to grow a pair, like I've said players abuse Refs and a lot worse than that.
