Mendilibar

Slomka's record is very very impressive although his style of play is said to be hard.

Mendilibar's record looks pretty average tbh and looking on twitter and other forums there are many WBA fans who don't want him.

I think most people don't really know who Mendilibar is which would explain some not wanting him.

I was the one who suggested him on new606 before Clarke was sacked as I know him from when he was in charge of Real Valladolid about 6 years ago.

Basically he got Valladolid promoted in his first season and then kept them up in the 2 following seasons. He was then stupidly sacked half way through the following season which resulted in Valladolid deservedly going down.

He took over at Osasuna when they were in a bad rut unable to score goals and conceding the odd goal to lose matches. He saved them that season and they finished mid table. The following season, after not having much to spend, he guided them to 7th and the Europa League. Last season Osasuna struggled in the league with the extra match load but Mendilibar kept them up in 16th. After a tough summer for the club with many ins and outs, they lost their first 3 games and he was unfortunately sacked which was a surprise.

Many people rave about Pepe Mel and what he did with Betis whilst overlooking what Mendilibar did with Osasuna which isn't fair. His teams play good, quick football and he prefers a 4231 but has used both 433 and 442 with Osasuna and Valladolid.

He is still my number 1 choice and hopefully we will get him.

As for Slomka, I don't particularly want to see him take over. I have nothing against him or what he did at Hannover which was very good but the football was never that good, it was pretty much always a rigid 442 and a lot of emphasis on trying to nick a goal on the break or out of nothing and defend well. It will be like Hodgson is in charge again and I don't want that.

Good to know regarding Mendilibar. I don't know much on him so that's a big help to me. Sounds like an Albion type of coach and if he plays good football, that will do for me.

There are however a lot of wba fans against this appointment for some reason. Why?

The answer to that question is simple jh. It is because they have no idea who he is so instead of doing basic research on the guy and seeing just how good a coach he is, they instead moan and winge that he must be no good, we're doing it on the cheap etc. I don't mean to rant and rave but it does really wind me up reading those sort of sites full of uneducated morons who assume we are going on the cheap with a bad coach when we will be very lucky to have Mendilibar. I have known him since his Valladolid days and he is one of the best candidates out there in my opinion for a club of our size. That is why he was my first suggestion before Clarke was even sacked.

A perfect example is this. When we nearly appointed Rangnick a few years ago, fireymoron said that he didn't want a "sicknote" taking over yet research would show that Rangnick has only ever stepped down from 1 team because of health problems and that was Schalke a few years ago.

1 plus for Mendilibar where Peace is concerned is that when he left Osasuna, his assistant stayed at the club so he could come straight in on his own and work with Downing and Kiely which is exactly what Peace wants.

That site in particular is full of absolute wànkers. Some real nasty bàstards on it. But if you look at CL's tweets regarding Jose...a lot of negative replies on him.

You've sold me on him, but I'd never heard of him before. If he gets the job, hopefully he brings back the good football.

To best honest with you, I wouldn't be surprised if someone completely different and left-field that hasn't been linked gets the job.

It would be typical Albion if Mendilibar, Mackay and the other main names touted are in fact a decoy and then someone like Thomas Schaaf or Bruno Labaddia gets the job.

Hopefully it will be Mendilibar though.
