Sherwood on Lamela

Erik Lamela will not be going anywhere during the January transfer window, Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has declared.

Lamela only moved to White Hart Lane in the summer but has started just three Premier League games for Spurs. His father is reported to have said that the 21-year-old is unhappy in England and is keen to return to Italy with Juventus the favourite to sign him.

Sherwood believes he just needs time to settle into life in London and has made it clear he will not be leaving anytime soon.

“He won’t be leaving on loan in this transfer window," Sherwood told his weekly press conference.

“Erik needs that time to acclimatise to a new country and the tempo of the games, especially over that Christmas period where they come thick and fast.

“We know what a talent he is and players need time to settle. He doesn’t speak English and is still feeling fatigued in one of his thighs.

“We’re going to take it nice and steady with him and I really want to put him on the stage when he’s ready to perform, rather than let people judge him when he’s half-cocked."

Rumours are the he's going to send out Holtby on loan to make room for Lamela. Whilst I want Erik to be given a chance, I think Holtby could be a top, top player. Shame.

I'll be very mad if we let Holtby go!
Great little player with an attitude that others should learn from

I'll be mad too. Wish Holtby would be given 5 - 10 games in a row where he starts, see what he can do. Personally I'd rather play him than dembele.
