New Player Integration

Jimmy’s thread on transfers got me thinking.

I would hope some planning for next season is under way. Some of this planning will be on the contingencies of getting or not getting CL football. Our recent speight of injuries highlights just how light our current squad is compared to the sides currently above us.

Suso, Wisdom, Assaidi, Borini and Robinson to come back from the loans. At this point I’d defo keep Suso, Wisdom and Robinson – Ass and Borini I’m not sure about. It looks like neither Aly or Victor are good enough to secure permanent deals, so they will be heading back to their parent clubs in the summer.

So to cope with CL football and ensure we are equipped to get back into the CL the following year (with all the additional demands of Europe) we’re gonna need perhaps 5 new quality players to come in.

Last Jan was awesome for us getting Studge and Cout in, this was the catalyst for our hugely improved form over the 2013 calendar year. To get the maximum benefit from buying in Jan the players that come in have to hit the ground running, like the aforementioned. This is no easy task but I believe the club really have to try and make it happen.

Part of the reason I feel it is so important is if we could get two signings in Jan then we would only need another two or three in the summer. I think this evolution is much more effective in terms of new player integration and speeds up the improvement of the squad. As Spurs have demonstrated this year - revolution - sweeping changes in player personnel is very very difficult to get right in time to have a great season (in August I thought that squad might be on for a title push).

Plus if you bring in a lot of players at once and most of them don't work out then we cannot rectify those kind of problems the way a City or a Chelsea could.

All thoughts welcome Redmen….

If we get CL then we will need to look at genuine qualitybut if we are in Europa than the likes and Borini, Ass, Aspas and Alberto will have a role to play.

All very good points. Would you rather a settled Suso or Borini or a player of high quality? Genuine question.

I think Suso will become a player of high quality but maybe not in time for next season. Borini I like but I'm not confident that he will make the grade.

To answer your question I have to be ruthless and say my preference is to have the player of high quality now.

That is if we get the investment (which I think we will) which is dependant on a top four finish.

If not then our boys coming back from loan will be very useful for Europa League games.

if we'd had targets willing to come then 1st jan they could have come and nearly been settled enough to bench warm by now.

If we buy on 31st jan they'll take another month which is then in the middle of the time we need to be winning every game to keep up.

i we invest now we can improve. we need to do so. 4th is hard enough without reinforcements.
