Free agent linked with McLaren's Rams

Since being released from Tottenham Hotspur after his most-recent loan at Blackburn Rovers, free agent David Bentley could be on his way to the iPro Stadium to work on his fitness and look to earn himself a short-term contract, if his appearance at Moor Farm today is anything to go by.

Having started his career relatively brightly, he has become something of a footballing nomad, not really fitting in anywhere; the list of clubs he has played for describes a journeyman, but one who has found it difficult to settle, not one who has moved because more money was offered or a large transfer fee materialised.

Steve McLaren handed the younger Bentley his first start in international football, a flash-in-the-pan lasting all of 7 games. Hailed as "the new David Beckham" due to his occasional ability with his right peg, he has stuttered towards 30, the age where footballers begin to realise whether they need to give it one last shot. Granted, injuries haven't helped his cause.

Could this be that little bit of experience we so desperately want in midfield (albeit not coupled with grit)? Could this be a solution to, let's face it, our terrible delivery from set pieces? Or is this an area of Macca's history that is best left in the past, which could prove to be about as useful as Laurent Robert?

UTR!

One of the rumours which said we were interested in Bentley also said we were looking at Titus Bramble. I thought it must be rubbish at the time, but if the Bentley part has some truth in it.........

He's Titus Bramble, he rapes who he wants.

Bentley if fit would bring quality with him that we need in the squad. "big time charlie" well that will be upto the management and rest of the squad to manage.

Bentley the new Beckham that never was. A career that has been going down hill for the past 5 seasons. There must be a good reason for that as you don't suddenly become a poor player.

You can suddenly become a poor player. I was the star of our after work 5aside football team. I know this because people were saying things like "Larry, what the f was that?" in obvious wonderment at my deft touches. Then, overnight, unexpectedly, I was being "forgotten" on the email list for the teams. This was obviously due to a sudden and catastrophic loss of form. It can't possibly be due to the fact that I was sheeeite all along.

I'm sorry. I cannot an article that refers to DC United as DC Washington seriously.

In my opinion, a David Bentley that is brought back down to Earth with a stern talking to would add to our squad greatly!

As a spurs fan and a derby fan I can honestly say.......don't bother with him. At spurs he just stopped training, didn't even turn up but collected his wage.

He has a bad attitude, has no pace, won't chase back and going by his last appearances for spurs (20 years ago) his crosses were very inconsistent.

Your attacking play is built on pace, this is not Bentley
