Jay Rodriguez

No, it's not an OP linking Jay with a move to the Hoops (although he was linked when at Burnley) - appreciate he is way out of our price range! When watching BT Sport's (always) excellent coverage of Sunderland vs. Southampton , a caption came up after Jay's goal which said that it was his 50th goal in England AND Scotland. I checked out his Wiki page and have copied and pasted the extract below. A big well done to this lad for making a great career for himself from such low key and humble beginnings. It shows what can be done with hard work, application and a good attitude

Rodriguez finished the 2007–08 season on loan at Scottish First Division side Stirling Albion after signing in January 2008. Jay continued to train with the Clarets whilst reporting for Stirling on match days. He made his debut for Albion a day later in the 3–0 defeat against Celtic in the fourth round tie of the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park. He came on as a second half substitute for David McKenna. He made his first start a week after against Livingston, but after the match he then faced a six week absence through fatigue and lack of fitness. His first game back on 1 March saw him come off the bench to score a consolation in the last minute and his first professional goal away at Morton which ended in a 2–1 defeat. He stayed with Stirling until the end of the campaign and also scored goals against Livingston and St. Johnstone, but these goals weren't enough to keep Albion up and they were relegated after finishing bottom of the table.

Rodriguez was expected to again move on loan to Scotland for the 2008–09 season but manager Owen Coyle rejected talk of the striker leaving the club after media speculation.

Totally agree Stevie. Talent and a good attitude is what it takes. Too many phannys think they've made it when they get into the Celtic or Rangers (or other SPL) 1st teams. Then fall completely aff the radar and into obscurity. Take note the likes of Tony Watt and Greg Wylde
