Sven's long list has been cut dramatically over the summer, and with Long off to West Brom (Congratulations on his debut goal) and Robbie Keane's inevitable move to the states, Nicky Maynard is now the last remaining striker on a very short list.
We have now had 3 offers turned down for the Bristol City Hit-man, offers that have come very close towards 5 million pounds. Listening to Keith Millen speaking to radio 5live before your 3-1 defeat at the hands of the impressive Cardiff City, he was explaining that Maynard had an offer on the table for him that is in the hands of his agent and they've also rejected offers a while ago that are way off the mark.
Now you might think 5 million pounds if anything, is a hyper-inflated price for a player who had was injured for most of last season and has 1 year left on his contract, but Keith then went on to explain why he is asking for so much money.
He claims the squad is too big, there is a lot of deadwood and he needs to cut it so he can then go and invest in the players he wants. Unfortunately, none of those players appear to have jumped ship over the summer and therefore no funds are available, which makes Maynard all the more valuable.
I fully believe Nicky Maynard does want to leave, otherwise that contract (Which I believe was offered sometime ago) would have his big fat signature on it by now.
This is all about getting as much money out of leicester city as possible and when push comes to shove, I wouldn't be surprised if your super-star striker leaves us close to an 8 figure some.
What a world we live in.
Nicky Maynard - Why he will leave.

Seems like a sensible approach to a difficult situation Dungeon Master.
It is a risky business though and could well result in our star player running down his contract and leaving for nothing.
Also, whilst I agree that NM's goals could be vital for our attempts to stay up.. it is no use him scoring a hat trick every week, if we are then going to concede 4 at the other end.

Greatness/Mikey - I'm not suggesting that it's an ideal solution for Bristol City because I don't think there is one. all I'm saying is that it's the lesser of all the evils: If BC sell now, they wouldn't have much time to bring in new defenders and could end up panic-buying. However, if they kept the status quo for a few months and took their time lining up a few defenders they'd like to target in January, I believe that would be their best chance of success.
Of course, as a Leicester fan I'd rather they sold him to us as quickly and desperately as possible.

My thoughts entirely Mikey.
Not having a go but the reality is that BCFC have conceded 6 goals in two games. £5m plus now could give you the opportunity to buy in a couple of decent defenders before the window closes. Leave it until January and you could be well down the league and looking for a new manager - we know, we have been there.
Still it could all change of Wednesday. You can't defend and we can't score - should be good for a point.

It doesnt make much buisness sense to sell Maynard to another Championship club to use the money to buy defenders. We would then have to find the decent defenders left plus we would then be weak upfront as none of the other strikers we have are as good as Maynard. Were not skint we have money but the club want to reduce the wage bill wasted on a large squad of players that were trying to sell before we buy. The club want to keep Nicky as long as poss or until a prem club come in for him. We all know we need to change round our defence and bring in new players but until we sell the players that are listed to go we cant buy its that simple or not...

Let's hope that the latest rumours about Newcastle being in for him are true. That way everybody is happy.

I find it laughable that Bristol City fans are claiming any of our fans are arrogant. You really need to look at your own lot, you've been an absolute joke all summer and I know plenty of us hope you go down for that very reason.

Our situation is clear our manager has to get rid of the 'Deadwood' at the club before he can sign new players, so selling Nicky Maynard would not help us get in new defenders, had a club come in with and offer of cash plus a class Centre back they might have got somewhere but noone made that offer.
In reply to Emilio I have no doubt that the feeling is mutual many of our fans would love to see you fall flat on your collective smug faces.

I am glad we have been keeping you amused all summer Emilio, we do our best but you have to admit so far the joke has been on you.
Over 200 pages about Nicky on your forum I think. He has been in Leicester for medicals every week according to your ITK's who have claimed numerous unsubstantiated offers have been accepted whilst it is clear to all that Nicky only wants Premier league and he obviously doesn't share your clubs optimism about your chances.
Last year we got a big-name manager in and our forums went wild with talk of all these big name players we were about to sign and then it all blew up in our faces very quickly so we know where you are coming from.
Yes we might have the odd 1 or 2 arrogant fans but as your fans keep telling us you are a much bigger club than us so of course it follows that you also have a lot more arrogant ones than us also.
Enjoy your season,it may be a good one for you if you eventually find a striker.

Emilio_Heskynho .. I did say SOME Leicester fans. Seems as though you are within that particular minority.
What exactly has been said by our fans that has made you label us a 'joke'?
Is it comments like "Why would Maynard move to your club?" Or was it angry comments from some of our fans, taking exception to how condescending Bel-lends like you have been about Bristol City?
It seems to me that your problem with Bristol City, is that we have not let you get your own way. Even my toddler has grown out of those sorts of tantrums now.
