Flying Under Radar, or not getting Respect?

Spurs are either flying under the radar, or not getting the respect we deserve

I actually think it suits spurs to fly under the radar and be the underdog, but still, having listened to various radio stations and read various written press over the last couple of weeks I am getting a bit fed up with the constant overlooking of spurs.

The standard line is “the title is between the top 3, and then its 4th place from any of the other 4", before they go on to talk in depth about Liverpool man u and everton.

Why is it that spurs barely get a mention? Alan Brazil is the worst – but then I guess no one takes him seriously anyway.

I find it a bit disrespectful though. I believe I am correct in saying that spurs have only been outside the top 5 for 2 of the last 7 seasons, and have in recent seasons finished above Chelsea, Liverpool (consistently), and Man City. We have taken beloved and amazing Arsenal to within a couple of points for the last couple of seasons, and are currently level on points with Liverpool, ahead of Everton, and 6 points ahead of Man U, having played them twice already. After tomorrow we would have played city twice, and this time in 2 weeks we would have played Everton twice too.

We are sat where we are in the league around teams who apparently have had amazing seasons (Everton/Liverpool), and we have supposedly had a whole host of summer signings who have flopped, were awful to the extent where we sacked a manager, and have been in a bit of turmoil for a couple of months now.

Not to mention our squad was stretched with injuries – Paulinho Vertonghen Sandro Townsend and Kaboul all now back from injury.

As I said before it suits us to fly under the radar, but at the same time, the seeming lack of respect from the media is a bit hard to swallow.

I think we're under the radar for a reason. It is only since the last league game that we have pulled ourselves back into contention. When you're sitting in 7th place you dont really get noticed, unless you are a Top 4 regular of course like the United's, Arsenal's etc - i certainly dont take it to heart not being bigged up.

There are lots of twists and turns to come, and if we do somehow overtake Liverpool at any stage and get to 4th, i'm sure we will be taken seriously again in debates about finishing in that position.

I totally agree , the media and pundits alike fawn over United and Liverpool as they are their darlings, they want them in the top four and Spurs are just something potentially in the way of that.

Hence United and Liverpool are constantly talked up for the top four and Spurs are dismissed as nothing more than a hindrance to their dreams.

Likewise with injuries, United or Liverpool have 2 or 3 first choice players missing and there is a massive media outpouring. Spurs have around 10 players injured and it never gets a mention, glossed over as an irrelevance.

The media see Spurs as a club they can kick as soon as they lose a game. I can understand the media to a certain extent bigging up United, they have won 13 prem titles, but Liverpool are just another club these days, and comfortably finished behind Spurs for the whole of the decade.

It goes both ways though. I remember when we were flying under Arry the one season in third, miles ahead of Arsenal, and with City in our grasp. There was talk of us as potential winners of the league at that point, or how we were so very close to it, and that, as it eventually proved to be, was quite far from the truth.

The moral is, never trust pundits.
