NEW LEFT BACK and WIDTH

I'll start by saying like Danny Rose, a decent player with pace who (generally) is a solid defender, if prone to the odd lapse in concentration. However he's still learning and is bound to have poor spells, while our only backup - Naughton - is championship standard at best.

I'm no scout but I think it's clear we have to strengthen our weakest position and get in an established PL left back, if we're not in the hunt for Shaw I say we go for Santon - he looks a decent player and Newcastle always sell at the right price. Whoever we target they've got to be ready to play.

Townsend can't come back quick enough imo - like Lennon when he's on form he keeps the opposition fullback honest and will create chances getting to the byline.. Chadli, Eriksen, and Siggy have all been tried on the left and while it has been effective it relies on Lennon keeping the width and playing well.

We all saw under AVB how inverted wingers can restrict space in the middle but the only time Lennon popped up on the left last night he turned Zabaleta inside out.. before losing it as he has no left foot

Lennon's form, as always, is great for a spell before he disappears against a pacey fullback like Clichy. IMO Andros coming back will enable us to use Lamela on the right when this happens and keep the width that helps open space in midfield and create chances.

Lennon - Sandro - Dembele - Eriksen

OR

Lamela - Sandro - Dembele - Townsend

Would give us creativity, width, and pace. Both formations would allow us to keep a wide/pace option on the bench if the game is tight. The second midfield lineup would also allow Eriksen - currently looking like our most creative attacking player - to move to a more central position behind the striker. Signing an experienced NEW LEFT BACK would negate some of the problems caused by an inverted winger, which Walker is already adept at.

A new CB or 2 would be handy too if Kaboom's not coming back

Santon isnt a bad player, but am always a bit about right-footed LB's. Especially considering the inverted winger we usually play, plays on the left hand side.

And which left back is available?

Width? How many more wingers do we need?

Any of them Doovde!!

Not suggesting we sign a new wide player, just saying how much we miss Townsend's pace, and an how he gives us the option to drop Lennon when he disappears like last night.

Fair enough.

I can't think of one left back who we could realistically sign who's any better than Rose.

Surely they can't all be worse than Naughton though
