Tom Carroll - MOTM

Hi guys,

Came across this video of all Tom Carroll's touches from his MOTM performance for QPR the other day.

Now before you get excited, this video is actually pretty boring but it looks as if this loan has really helped him to kick on in his development. He seems to be a lot more physical than I've seen him and whilst I know this comparison is a smidge over the top, he seems to play the way Modric used to by sitting deeply and dictating the play.

I think next season will be a make or break for Tommy Carroll!

Doovode - it's still fairly rare. Players who 'broke' through for Spurs in the last 20 years (for example) include only King, O'Hara, Livermore and Caulker (and only one of those was deemed good enough for the Spurs squad). I can't think of anyone else really and it's a fairly sad indictment of the Spurs academy.

Benteleb was bought in a few years ago.

Yes Townsend, you're right. Random rumour that he's off to Man U for £20million today ...

Totally agree! It reflects the bigger problemt that we have in the UK - clubs would rather spend money on a young foreign player when they have an academy full of players looking for a chance.

A lot of clubs, including ourselves, seem to see the academy as a commercial opportunity. Bring lads on and sell them, just keep the occasional one if he's exceptional.

The quest for instant success these days doesn't give them much chance...even when we bring in 21 year olds from outside they're expected to perform from Day 1

I highly doubt next year is make or break for him btw. Players like Carroll are always at their best at their end of their career as they don't rely on athleticism. Instead he relies on patience and experience of how to read the game.

Now I know he is no where near as good as these players, but the likes of xavi, Pirlo Ritc all peaked late in their twenties. Which is what often happens to a deeper lying playmaker.

Carroll will only continue to get better.

On that case carroll won't be with us long. Look at the snap judgements we make on young players like Holtby and Lamela, similar age to Carroll but we expect miracles of them. Until we, and the players, realise we're buying for the future then we will always be disappointed when they don't meet our unrealistic expectations

Yeah, they all care about the 'now'. However noone in our team really wants to stay together for a couple of years so that they can go from strength to strength.

Facking annoying.
