Okay so Draxler comes out and practically says we did our best to sign him but Horst Heldt refused to sanction the transfer acknowledging that they would be unable to find a suitable replacement in time.
(Damn you Levy )
What does everybody think of the possibilty that we may have opted against spending on a striker this window in order to save the money for Draxler's release fee in the summer to wrap it up as soon as possible????
Would be a clever move by Wenger and I for one would be happy with that scenario and I know many would be in hindsight if the transfer did go through quickly in the summer, although knowing Arsenal, this is me hoping more than anything.
Now, having not spent any money this window, and deciding to loan a 31 Kim Kallstrom whom we may well have known was already carrying an injury, why oh why did we reject the opportunity to loan Berbatov a Premier League winner instead. Surely the latter would've brought much more valuable experience to the squad than Kim in a position that we are far less rich in, and would've definitely been better than not acquiring a forward at all???
I just can't fathom the thought process behind it.
Those people I see that say they wouldn't take Berbatov just need need to ask yourselves, would he have been a better option than Kallstrom.
What are your opinions on both points guys......

Berbatov can play and not out for 6-8 weeks

Where do people find this rubbish from? He didn't say that at all.

Think it could be time to forget about Draxler. Rumours Schalke have 'an agreement' with Bayern and the player will be Bavaria-bound come the summer.
We could surely have done better than than Kallstrom anyway with all the money that goes into our fabled scouting network - maybe now we're more moneyed we'll go the Chelsea route of letting other clubs do the dirty work for us? - so it was a strange signing anyway, even before yesterday's story began to emerge.
Hopefully Arsene will be quizzed about it post-match today, and it'll all become a bit clearer - not that I'm banking on it.
From the outside Berbatov might look like a missed opportunity, but I'm nit so sure. One thing that cannot be doubted about our current squad is it's strength and character. Perhaps Arsene thought introducing a Berbatov figure, no matter how talented they are, would've upset the applecart too much to be worth it?
So we move forward and go with what we have. If the injuries start to let up a bit, maybe we'll glad we didn't bring anyone (else) in?

If we rush the Draxler transfer through in the summer then that would be acceptable
Having not signed anyone now we better be planning on bringing in 2 or 3 quality players in the summer.

I doubt Schalke have an agreement with Bayern, they would much rather sell to us than them. Unlike Lewandowski, Draxler seems open to a move abroad and seems very interested in playing for us.

That's my hope too, Bats.
Draxler HAS spoken very favourably about Arsenal and Arsene, not to mention the growing German contingent at the club now.
Maybe he'll come, maybe he won't? I'd rather just focus on football matches, for a while at least, than moon over someone who doesn't play for us - and whose name isn't Sergio Agüero.
