The Cup

First time contributor to these page so please be gentle. Followed for a while and was always on the old BBC606 site.
Touched surprised at how negative a lot of forest fans seems to be about our cup run. The league is always a priority but the fact we are on a decent run I thought made it important we got a result at Deepdale. Obviously injuries are starting to leave us short especially in the defensive midfield areas but I think the post reported a couple of days ago that we have 28 first team squad members. The cup whilst giving us a chance to keep the run going also gives fringe players the opportunity to stay sharp. I'd personally alway like us to pick a side designed to win. It's important Reid was left out and I can see the logic in leaving Darlow out but for me the cup has still got an element of romance attached to it and I for one am pretty excited about our run.
For some Forest fans to post that they wouldn't be disappointed if we'd lost on Wednesday I can't fathom. A good league season doesn't have to mean we can't compete in the cups as well. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
Embrace the cup fellow Reds. Not been to wembley since 92' and with league one opposition in the 5th round we've got a chance to hopefully get to the semi finals and maybe even beyond.

28 man squad. All needs games. Would have done Derbyshire the world of good getting some minutes under his belt on Wednesday. He looked surprising lively. Same applies to Harding and Collins whom probably won't feature much now Fox and Hobbs have signed / resigned. You never know when the fringe players will be required, hence the importance of competitive game time.

Every extra game means more opportunity for suspensions or injuries, and that can only be detrimental to the only goal we should have this season: Going to Disneyland.

I heard Webb has a part time job there as Jaffar!

I'm embracing the cup run. It's been so long since we've been on one. Saying that, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we lost to Sheff Utd. If we play like we did on Weds then we'll probably lose. Cup runs can be detrimental to league form but you ask any player and they will say theu want to play as many games as possible, especially when we're on an unbeaten run.

Welcome to the boards by the way

Should beat the Blunts. I watched their 'game' on Tuesday. Terrible game. Brayford and their left back, Hill I think, looked like their only two players.
Should be a decent attendance. Impressed with the ticket prices.

I can see the SU game being as bad as the Preston games, they were actually the better team in the Fulham game, but I bet they'll just try and stop us playing. Incidentally, PNE fans are the biggest nobs on twitter.

I'm not sure about this 28 man squad either, a lot of our fringe players I wouldn't trust at Notts County, let alone our first team. Derbyshire has had plenty of chances under Davies yet is still only a sub at best, and did nothing last night. That's why we need to dip into the loan market again, especially now that Lansbury is out.

Welcome Mani.

There's positives and negatives...

Whilst I do agree with you that the cup is a good way to keep our fringe players fit and active, the further we go in the competition the more serious it gets and against stronger sides we will probably have to field our better players. This might have an impact, not only on potential injuries but tiredness for the league campaign.

However, a good run could do wonders for confidence.

Aup mani

while id like to think the cup can be used for fringe players, id say that time has come and gone. Since west ham i'd say we've gone full force.

Although injuries and suspensions are an issue, keeping that winning mentality is important. That and the vast majority of injuries we've had are in training so i doubt game time can be a true suspect. Ill keep throwing the bradford example out there. A good cup run did them the world of good.

What would Brian have said?

You can guarentee he would have said you need to win every game. Good enough for me.

People who don't want us to win should be embarrassed!

I thought we were Ok against Preston.
They never really looked like scoring. A lot of huffing and long balls to the edge of the box as all they had in their locker. We had a good goal disallowed and won 2-0.

As for the cut run I agree, let’s keep winning and if we play like we did against Preston then we will beat them. It is great for the squad.
